    Riders Discount

Well i bought a bunch of things from Riders Discount on ebay. They are great to deal with. I told them I wanted gloves, helmet, and a jacket. They brought down the price and said if I was willing to deal off ebay they would drop the shipping. So I went that route, fantastic, saved lots of money.

Then when I got the parcel, the tax on it was $90! Riders Discount had the invoice on there stating it was a gift and that the gloves were $13, jacket $50, helmet $60. Then customs opened it, thats why there is yellow customs tape on my package and they wrote the worth of the items as: $35, $120, $135. I have no idea where they got these items from cause none of these items have price tags and not to mention this is way over what i paid for them.

Ugh...if you can fix that tax thing it would have been great. Still, Riders Discount was great to deal with, I just feel sort of bumbed out.

I don't know what you could do about the tax, it is the government can;t miss with them , i assume this was shipped using UPS? if so never again, if you are ordering from the states always try to get companies to ship through USPS.

No, shipped just normal USPS. The postman who delivered it was like...don't ship with USPS, tell them to ship UPS or some other carrier because custom doesn't check 80% of the time...
But yea, I hear a lot of people complain here about UPS...
So don't know what to believe.

Sounds like you got a pretty good deal on the stuff, with free shipping to boot. Why not just declare the value of the goods (or at least something that seems reasonable) and pay a bit of tax?

I've dealt with a few online sellers who won't write "gift" on the package, because it's so painfully obvious that any customs person with half a brain will catch that. "Why would "Riders Discount" be sending a gift to someone in Ontario?" And "Why is "Riders Discount" sending all these Canadians all these gifts?" It doesn't take a brain surgeon to see through the most common customs scam going. They probably could have just kept your stuff or sent it back to the seller if they wanted to be hard-***** about it.

I usually take the hit on the tax just to make sure the brokerage process goes smoothly. It's still cheaper than using UPS.

I buy alot of stuff off ebay also. I always get busted for tax and duties when I get somethign shipped with UPS. Always go with USPS. But as of lately i've noticed that since the dollar is close to or pass par....customs have been checking packages from all carriers. I live half an hour away from the border...i might think of getting a P.O. box and just ship there and pick it up when im around the area.

I heard u can get a PO Box from this place near the border, and they only cahrge u $5 per month or order i forgot which one, but that is still cheaper, since there will be no tax on it.

I believe its called US ADDRESSES or soemthing like that, can anyone confirm this?

Stick with USPS express. I orderd my jacket last Tuesday from LA, arrived at my house on last friday morning.. (wifee didn't answer the door so i had to wait 'til monday to pick it up)

UPS rapes you on brokerage fee's + you pay the duties/taxes...USPS doesn't charge you brokerage fees', you only pay your duties/taxes.

I received my aplinestars RC-1 jacket yesterday, same thing, customs opened the box and priced it at $600 when i only paid $385..had to pay duties/tax on the $600...MF....

I've used Rider Discount a few times and have never been taxed ... you just got unlucky

These guys are great for Canadians because the shipping label comes from their actual house with theowners name rather than "Rider's Discount" ... I have recieved 5-6 parcels from them and have never paid a cent above what I paid them. No customs, no taxes, no brokerage (**** UPS / FedEX)

I would order from them again ... they have been the best online seller I have ever dealt with ... they even exchanged a jacket hat was the wrong size for free ...

That's up to you I guess ... You could declare the stuff and pay tax or you could try to get it through without declaring it (a risk)

If I were to do it (not saying I have because it is illegal and dishonest ... hahahah), I would tell them I am going to play a poker tourney in one of the casinos in Barfalo ... on the way back you say you got knocked out in the first 30 minutes ... I'm not saying that works, but I can see the potential

i have seen the border people do this at the airport.
they just look up some random object, doesn't have to be same brand or anything, on the internet and then guess at a price.

I wondering if I should dispute it at all, it'll probably be a lengthly process and who knows where I would need to drive to dispute it and get some money out of it...
