Ground anchors in motorcycle parking areas

I'm wonding if people would value having an anchor in the special motorcycle parking areas. Being able to hook a chain or cable lock through one would remove the ability for thieves to quickly load them into a van and disappear. The designated motorcylce parking areas in Toronto could be a good place to see if they work well.

Thoughts? At this stage I'm not considering the budgetary aspect, just the value to the MC community.

I like that idea personally. but the city may think that there arent enough bikes on the road to make it worth while

I don't know of any "motorcycle specific" parking in Toronto, if you are refering to the free street parking I don't think the city would want to put anchors on the street.
I do like the idea however cars park in the same spots & would prob hit them and snow plows would prob destroy them all during the winter. On the curb I could see them being a trip hazzard as they are very low to the ground. They only really woud work well in lots next to the concret bumpers.

I am assuming he is talking about recessed anchors (as in they dont stick out of the pavement). I think its a great idea. But I can only see it happening around the same time that my property/provincial/federal taxes are reduced.
Sorry, Luke. I'm just doing my job. You gotta appreciate that. Nah, calling it your job don't make it right Boss.

These are the 8 designated motorcycle parking areas I'm thinking of:

I've seen a couple of them so the information seems to be reasonably up to date.

Good points raised - the anchors may have to be recessed into the curb. Keep the ideas coming...

Go out and buy any of the British motorcycle magazines. You'll find a half-dozen ads by companies that sell anchors, both in and above ground, and ground mounted chocks.

Thanks Rob. Doesn't seem to be much interest in the idea though so I'll leave it be.

You might want to at least think about contacting one of those UK manufacturers, to see if you could get a reseller rate on their stuff. You never know, it might be a way to make a little side money

wow.. I made that map 2 years (at least) ago.. since it's now free to park on the streets I don't think those spots are still there. Can someone verify if there's signs still posted there?

Well, maybe I was mistaken, but in 2 the areas I expected to see them based on your map, there were rows of just bikes, about 12 in each spot...I'll have another look. And thanks for the map! I was more interested in the area as motorcycle-friendly than as free parks - the more bikes, the less chance a car will nudge it over I figure... plus if the city designated them, then there's no real reason for them to change because a paperwork issue (tickets) has changed.
