If you wanted to be cursed later or an ******e then don't pass it. And if you asked for more money for manual and etc, buyer may tell you to ****off with the sale. So, just be nice and hand them your baby with diapers and feeders so it can be well taken care off.

Thanks guys...I bought my girlfriend a bike last year and we have since parted ways. I got the bike from her but she kept the manuals and paperwork. Just wanted to know is if it was worth fighting with her to get them or not. It has never mattered to me when I was buying.

Consider yourself lucky that you at least got the bike back.
You may order a new manual from the dealer or online and service copies from your place of service, if its really needed.

No, I got the bike and ownership. I meant paperwork as in the service records. I could press for them if it mattered....but since it doesn't really, I won't.

It won't necessarily get you more money, but it helps. It's part of the total package which will impact the right buyers decision on whether to buy your bike, and what to pay you.

For example, I just bought a 2006 CBR600 F4i. I had MANY to choose from, but the one I bought had the lowest km's (only 3600) and was virtually new. It literally looked like it just came out of the box. I was willing to pay top dollar because of this (still got a deal at $6K).

Point is, having the manual and service records will be part of assuring the right buyer that the bike is the right one for them. It wouldn't be a deal killer NOT to have them, but will certainly be a help in making a deal.

By the way, I suspect you could get copies of the service records from the shop, and the manual is probably available online. Burn it to a disc and do a nice print job on the front of the disc (pic of a CBR and labelled), and it'll be just one more of those little things that helps the sale.

how the bike looks is far more important then "service records". If the bike looks like its been trashed and not taken care of, I don't care what service records you have!

Some people like to get an owners manual when they buy something, so you may want to get that on e-bay or something.

Besides that, its a bunch of paperwork.

Unless its been something like an engine rebuild, or something done internal (not seen by eye), you can usaully tell how something was looked after.

Possibly. If you average it out, that book will probably nets anyone who reads it %15 to %25 on everything for the rest of their lives. If you read it cover-to-cover because of this post, and we ever meet, you might just give me the $20 on principle. The cost of being taught it as a text in a negotiations unit in an MBA course is a marginal $600-$1200 on top of the $60k-$100k one would pay for the degree. Even if someone applied principled negotiation techniques to their marriage and resolved a single argument, that's less than dinner.

So, no, I won't try to convince you to give me $20, but if we meet and you've read it cover to cover, you may find yourself trying to convince me to take it from you, or at least a beer, or something.

I was in a similar situation...didn't have the manuals, had no problem selling the bike. If the bike looks good and the price is fair it shouldn't be a problem. good luck
