whats the point of a 88 year suspension, why not just a lifetime ban. the guy isnt going to live to be 125 and then go back on the road.

Exactly. No point in a driving ban. Better to put them in jail for 88 and 44 years for stealing and drug trafficing.

Nice catch. Obviously, those suspension terms won't have any effect on the knuckleheads - they'll just keep going, just like mandatory long jail sentences won't have any effect on the hardened criminals - just a cost of doing business. One day, we might even realize that

Like many active sports, shooting has the potential to cause personal injury.

Did draconian suspensions have any effect on those 2 clowns' driving behavior? Their riding was crazy enough to pick up a pigtail.

no but you essentially suggested that large jail sentences for a violent crime (insert one) would be just as ineffective. I am saying a prohibition against a behaviour and jail is not comparable.

after all, clearly throwing these guys in jail would stop their no licence riding.

If you can get'em into jail in the first place and by that time, they have already committed tons of criminal acts. Same goes for violent offenders.. Does a gangbanger really care if a mandatory minimum for having a gun without a licence is 5 or 15 years? He'll use it to bust a cap in a suckaz *** and won't give a damn about the legal consequences of that either. He'll even brag about it all over da hood.

    Re: 2 riders - 88 & 44 year suspensions - who cares?

a licence suspension is still not at all comparable to a jail sentence,

secondly. yes when you throw someone in jail they would have committed a criminal act... duh?
lastly, I don't really care whether a "gangbanger" cares about the legal consequences or not or where he "brags", I still want him in jail (if he committed a crime)

some people commit crimes no matter how many consequences you put on it, it is not in any way an argument against jail, deterrance isn't the sole goal of criminal justice, far from it.

this new story has no lessons about mandatory minimums or jail sentences ( other than the fact that they should be imposed) you just springboarded it into something completely different.
