If you want to pit it, and create a 100 year old wrought iron look, your going to need to either use a super volitile acid, or look at some high build vein powdercoating.

So im in the process of building a sleigh bed with some metal accent pieces. The pieces are cut from 1/4" plate steel and I want to "age" the steel. I heard about pouring hydrogen peroxide on the metal followed by a layer of salt. I tried this and let it sit for 3hrs but only surface rust appeared. Am I being impatient? I want the steel to actually have a pitted look to it. Does anybody know of a different process or maybe I should try again and let it sit for a couple weeks. Thanks

Copper looks pretty neat. Talk to a local powder coater, he'll have sample i'm sure.
