That's terrible. It seems to be a common thread topic here lately.

Ugh... well I had my first spill today. My best friend just bought a 2006 R6 out in sauga with 6K on the odo. He doesn't have his M1 yet so he asked me to ride it back for him. Everything was fine until we stopped to eat at square one. On the way out of the Alice Fazooli's parking lot the rear tire slipped on a super slick piece of pavement during a left turn. It wasn't wet out but the pavement itself had this sheen on the surface. Even my boot slipped on it. The tires were cold and I believe they are a track oriented tire [Edit: Michelin Pilot Race M2] as they're rock hard compared to the rubber on my bike. I guess it had to happen some time but, man, I feel so bad it happened with my boy's new ride!
Thankfully the damage was minimal:
left mirror broken
left bar end scratched
left frame slider and foot peg chewed up
left spool scratched
and a small scratch on the tail fairing
Rest of bike still pristine
He kept his sense of humour about it and actually thanked me for taking the hit. He plans to put more suitable street tires on it.
Here's a photo of the good side:

Good to hear that you're OK, now fix the bike!
are you gonna pay for the damages?
Wow, I feel for you. It's bad going down on your own, I can only imagine what it must be like crashing your buddy's new bike. Glad your OK.
New to me for 2012.
This is why I put tires that are for street use. Too many people going down on race tires on the streets.
Glad you're okay... Bikes can be fixed or replaced... People can't.

That's why I don't ride any of my friends' bikes, even if they offered.
Glad the damage was minor and your friend was being nice about it...

To each is his own. I am glad AF4iK is OK, and he is doing the right thing of fixing the bike. Personally, I love riding my friends' bikes. That's how I picked a CBR to begin with - I rode on SV, ZX6R, CBR and GSXR. Two out of those four were friends' bikes, the other two were demo bikes. And obviously, if I crash my friend's bike while playing with it, I'm fixing it.
Why do street riders insist on putting track tires on their bikes. Track tires never heat up enough on street riding to make them grip properly. Street tires on the other hand do heat up faster during street riding and provide adequate grip on the street!!!????

Wouldn't worry about it. Chances are your buddy will drop his R6 too considering he doesn't even have a M1 but he got a R6.
