    Speeding ticket -.-

So a buddy of mine got pulled over by CAMPUS POLICE, we attend the University of Waterloo so there's campus police not real police tho lmao. He received a speeding ticket of going 12 over in a 40 zone . . . the ticket just tells him to pay $40 dollars. Should he just ignore the dam thing since we receive parking tickets from them all the time but we just toss them and nothing happens. Except this time his liscense was taken down by the campus cop. I will tell him to email me the ticket so i can post it up, but any ideas on what he should do? Has anyone received a speeding ticket by a campus cop lmao

I'd contact the city and determine if the roads within the campus are deemed private roads or maintained by the city and indeed city roads.

So i dont know the specifics of UW but in Mohawk and Macmaster if you had a parking tickets and they knew the plate was for a student's (IE its registered for parking pass etc) and they were not paid you could not graduate until you paid the fines with interest. Cost a friend of mine about 1500 extra bucks cause of it. Also unpaid tickets can stop you from renewing your licence so you might want to look into that before just throwing them

the university may not let him graduate until he pays it

and i'm sure the longer he waits, the more late fees and interest charges they'll slap on

but just make sure they're legit HTA tickets, and that they can be fought in a Provincial Court

the question now becomes, will it affect his driving abstract and insurance rates?
    _____

the fine seems to be incorrect for a 12 over ticket

    $2.50 x 12 over = $33 (Schedule B @ http://www.ontariocourts.ca/ocj/en/s...schedule43.doc)
    Victim Surcharge = $10 (http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/html/reg...s_000161_e.htm)
    Court Fee = $5

Fine should be = $48 if it was a legit HTA ticket

so that would be a Fatal Error if it was brought to Trial, JP would toss it

Yeah i kno he never registered his car for a parking pass lmao so not linked to his student profile. For the cars we know are linked we wouldnt pull that crap and just pay for parking lmao since we have like 5 cars altogether at the house.

U of W roads are private.

I'm not sure if they take there unpaid fines to the collection agency's but I do know the plate # is flagged and if the kid with the ticket book recognizes the plate # or car.... It gets towed immediately. If the car is registered with the university then you don't graduate until all fines are paid.
I'll find out later today to see if they get the collection agency's involved.

If not just toss the ticket and be Cautious about parking on their property with a risk of being towed.

I rack up tickets for a 3 month period at a time, until my parking pass is expired. Gots to pay em off so that I can get a valid pass again. That's part of the game here.
In my trade it's sometimes necessary to park closest to the bldg I'm working in. If its a valid parking spot or up on the sidewalk these kids have no idea why your there. They are just doing their job.

He could have been following him. While not accurate, it would show he was speeding.

it's not like he can dispute the ticket in court, uWaterloo is judge & jury

for all we know Campus Police eye-balled it, and maybe they can only issue tickets for 15 over

i wonder what they do for 50 over
