That's why I always suggest adoption as the #1 option. Puts less money in the pockets of this scum, an abandoned/neglected animal gets proper care, and you get all the benefits of having a loving grateful pet.

These people should be forced to live in the same conditions they kept the dogs in as punishment.

I bought one puppy 2 years ago, my ex has her and I can tell you right now that I would have loved to just pay the $500 that I paid back then to the Humane Society instead if it was to go to help these little guys out. I did not know any better at the time. Adoption is my only option from now on.

Another thing to consider is an older dog as everyone wants to adopt a puppy. We might be forced to if we get one while the cat's still alive, but if we hold off, we'll just get a fully grown dog.

Get two...I am. Adopting a puppy this weekend and adding an older one in a little while. Have had 2 dogs and 4 cats previously as rescues (still have 2 cats)....never regretted it for a second.

I went with an older rescue dog, as I've never had a dog and wanted to bypass all the puppy 'stuff'. She came house/crate trained and has fit in beautifully.
Better to regret something you have done than something you haven't.
