Has anyone ever heard of this happening or provide any advice. I've been insured with State Farm for 6 years. Never had a claim, ticket nothing paying around $1200 / year for the bike insurance.
Last summer my friend (cop) took my bike for a boot around the block and hit someones dog. The bike was a write-off due to frame damage and I was issued a cheque. My friend was OK.
Anyways, 8 months later I receive a registered letter today saying they are cancelling my policy and not renewing it in May.
Ask them for the reason for the cancellation or non-renewal. The accident should not have any effect on the insurance as unfortunately the fault should lie with the dog(owner of the dog). In fact the insurance company has a right to go after the dog owner for the damage to the your bike.
