Yup, and with the current climate regarding it, can you imagine the firestorm directed at anyone that opposed it? My point exactly.

There's quite a firestorm directed at people who advocate pedophilia..the firestorm could show it's the right thing to do and all the parties recognize that fact and vote accordingly.

Where this won't occur is matters that would raise public outrage. A look at the way these fools conduct themselves in the House of Commons says a lot!
I have no problem with the House of Commons being locked in a standstill between parties. It's not like the country will shut down if MP's can't agree on anything.

i heard an interesting comment on the upcoming elder abuse ramp up:
Since most abuse comes at the hands of relatives the abused may be more reluctant to complain if they think their offspring is going to be facing serious punishment. In some cases the abuser is the only contact with the outside world. Crappy choices.

wow what the **** happened to this thread. The comment that was taken as "angry" was probably the best and most relevant part of this thread and i just hadn't gotten a chance to respond to this. It needs to be pointed out that no one is doing anything about this, and the first step is getting people to realize this is something that people should be getting mad about. Way to take an important topic that people need to be able to voice their opinions on and sensor the hell out of it. Who ever moderated this is an absolute half wit.

I tried to get many of my friends and family up in arms about this. I was only mildly successful. People still think their government works for them, and has their best interests in mind. In short, the majority of people are naive. But they're becoming less so, which is a good sign.

What D23 brough was not even remotely relevant to the discussion. He just blatantly attacked the OP.
Good job on the mod for taking action.

I'm the OP, thanks for paying attention tho. His comment had complete merit and i have the humility to be able to say he's right, sitting around typing on a forum is ineffectual, we need to actually do something about this.

what i see in people is even worse, it seems if the matter at hand isnt going to affect them on a personal level in the next 24 hours they just dont give a ****. How many non violent, first offenders are we going to let the canadian government put in jail in our names?

And besides when the hell did we get so strict on marijuana? Something thats borderline socially acceptable in this country, a country that at one point decriminalized the substance and has lead the way with legal reform on the matter, and now we're going the other way.

I dont care if you're for or against the substance, when did we become a country that believed in persecuting people who aren't causing anyone else harm.

I was quite happy with the direction was going before it got censored, and would like to write more but because of surgery i only have one hand to type with at the moment, which makes it hard to say a lot.

To start a discussion, and hopefully at least get a few people up in arms about this. That has to be the first step because right now people dont even care, this wont be the end of this.
