    Just because a battery shows 12v with a voltmeter does not mean it has full capacity to start a vehicle. The only way to test a battery is with a load tester.

    A motorcycle battery is good for 2 to 3 years if maintained well (kept on a battery tender when not in use and never let to fully discharge) Some better quality ones will last 5 years or more.

    My battery is the original from July '04 but that kind of life expectancy is not the norm. If, with the ignition on you get a reading of less than 12.7 volts and it drops of while checking it the battery is likely pooched. Your 11.9 with the ignition on tells the story.

    Bike sat from Friday evening until this afternoon, had some trouble starting up, had to hold the starter for a few seconds, let off it, then try again. Going to order a new battery tomorrow.
