Anyone skipping trackdays the yesr due to $$$?

I love my trackdays on my CBR, but I will be skipping this year due to cost (both kids getting braces this year) and time constraints.

In total, my 6 track days cost about $4,000 (gas, tires, hotel for Calabogie, and 6 days rental)
Is anyone else skipping this year? If so, why?

Adding more this year. racing (cars, bikes, barchairs, whatever the case may be) is a hugely valuable part of my life. I'm willing to eliminate things like smoking, drinking, eating at restaurants, etc... if it means i'll be able 2 get some speed time in.

Everyone has different priorities, but have you considered ways you could reduce the cost of your track day adventures? Buy an old racebike instead of renting, don't stay at the hotel, find a cheaper circuit, use non-slicks, etc?

My trackbike is a 91 CBR600... You can't get much older or cheaper. It is great on tires, I get 6 trackdays on a set of tires.
I don't smoke, and don't eat out often. I could camp out at Caliboge, but would need to spend $200 plus for a tent and stuff.(plus I like sleeping in a bed)

As fr priorities, braces are $6k a pop times two. Kids trump track days...
Also as I get close to 50, it may be time to shift back to 4 wheels like a M3 o Z4.

You think trackdays are expensive, wait til you get the repair and insurance bills on those choices.

I cant speak about the repair bills for a bmw (Im probably going with a P-car this year), but insurance isnt that bad. I cross shopped the M3 and my insurance agent quoted me 1500 a year (35 y/o, clean record), which is only a couple hundred dollars more than my daily driver. Tires are other consumables on the other hand are $$$.

I under stand what you are saying, but insurance is reasonable for me (age, driving record, and location) I pay $1200 a year for my 01 530.

As for repair, I was a BMW tech, so the only cost is parts.

Yeah tell me about it. I'm sure getting my chompers lined up back in the day set my parents back a pretty penny. 996's, E46M3's and etc can be had for very cheap. Boxsters even more so, plus you can drive up to the track, turn a bunch of laps and then head home without any headaches.

    having said that, i had a 91 CBR600 for a bit...my first encounter with a sportbike actually.

Is that the closest track for you? I'd spend that IF I had new tires each day.

I dunno I don't think his costs are too out of line for bogie.

$1500 approx for the 6 track days with pro6, depending on weekend vs weekday
$800 approx for fuel(tow vehicle and bike/generator, depends on tow vehicle, could be way more, depends on travel distance as well, assuming GTA)
    $300 at least for food/drink
$250 at least for a set of tires(he mentioned he uses one set)
$600 for 6 nights at hotel(more if he stays more than one night each trip)
$500 for unexpected expenses ie repairs, crashes, etc etc.

already at close to $4000 and I have probably forgotten a bunch of other things.

Have you ever ridden at bogie?

    It's worth the extra money.

If the extra cost is keeping you from riding it's not worth it.

    Lol. Ya
Since the OP can't afford it he could do two around here for the price and time of doing one at Bogie.
