Find a place that sells used boat parts, you can pick up a used voltmeter (analog) for $5.00 and they are water proof.

+ 1 on the Datel - but mine is waterproof - it's exposed and has been exposed to some nasty storms with not an issue.... reads to a 1/10th of a volt. Excellent as mentioned for knowing how much power I'm drawing, especially as I add items into the mix or increase their draw with the controller. I've had it for a few years now...
A little pricey, but worth it. http://www.bikemeters.com/cgi-bin/we...nfig=ent-datel

Let's see the pic of the set up when you get a chance. Will take one of the Datel if you want. Have to figure out how to post pictures here.

Just wire it directly to an ignition-switched circuit like the instrument cluster lights. That way when the bike is off, so is the voltmeter.

Perhaps, but a gizmo like this would have caught the time I didn't quite get the voltage regulator plugged in all the way and bumped it when re-installing the fairing, resulting in Frekeyguy having to come pick me up after the battery ran down too far to keep the engine running (10 km down the road) ...

its wired to the headlight for now as a hack job. i'll find a more permanent place for it once i find a fuse to steal power from so that it is only on when the bike is running or when the ignition is turned on.

I run mine from a fusebox that I put in the front. The fusebox is a Centech II and is powered by a relay. The relay is triggered by an accessory wire that comes alive when the bike power is turned on. There are also a couple of always live outlets in the fusebox that stay on. I use one of those for the GPS power as sometimes I want to keep it one while figuring something out, while the bike is off.

ID:	27284 This is a closeup of the Industrial Velcro holding it up, the wire in front is for the GPS. I have that wire and the Datel wires in a plastic loom into the fairing and the extra fuse box in the front

It looks nice, suite the bikes round dials. Good photo to show that it is waterproof. Thanks for posting the picture.
