Has anyone tried evaporative cooling vests against VnM SPortgear?

I'm interested to know how evaporative cooling vests would compare to the VnM gear.

Do any VnM owners have experience with that?

Are you offering free VnM product to use and evaluate?

We use cooling vests at work. I have a set of your gear though limited use so far. There's no comparison in comfort. The vests are thick and a bit bulky. VnM is anything but. The vests will cool you regardless of ventilation (at least the ones we use do) whereas VnM will not. So, I'm not sure how direct a comparison it really would be.

Hmm, now that I'm thinking it over, maybe I'm not thinking of the same vests. The ones we use have a chemical reaction cooling system.

Interesting, thanks Griffin. Perhaps I may do some comparisons over the summer. I have samples that people can test out.
    Stay tuned for that.

I've never worn the VnM stuff, but I bought an evap cooling vest last year: http://www.soundrider.com/archive/pr...oling_vest.htm

I swear by this thing now, and I won't go on a tour without one any more. It's convenient, it's versatile, it works decently even under a jacket with limited airflow (though it works really well under a mesh jacket); it's a key piece of touring gear for me now.

After seeing Ooomis's post I'm thinking of a different thing. This is similar to what we're using:

I can't speak to the effectiveness of expensive cooling vests, but if you want a way to keep cool while riding for under $20, try a Chilipad!

I bought one last season and it worked great! Simply wet it, wring out the excess, and tuck it in under your jacket. It kept me cool on even the hottest days. It is large and works best if only 1 layer thick, so you may want to cut it in half. Best of all, when it dries out, all you need to find is a sink to rewet. Comes with its own bottle to fold up and put it in when not in use and takes up very little space in a tank bag or saddle bag too.

Got the same one and it works well in arizona dry heat. Anybody tried it in florida humid heat.
