Some good trailering info here. I trailer 2 bikes in an enclosed 5by8 uhaul with a V70 2.5 T AWD (rated 1500 kg - yes kg - with trailer brakes). $22 day. I can't beat that. Lots of room + wagon space. My towed weight is about 2000 lbs. Uhaul problem is availability, esp. month ends and long weekends. Book early.

I am looking for one of these to carry two 850 lbs cruisers. http://reading.craigslist.org/mcy/2708964551.html
It has to be aluminum so it can be pulled with a small SUV.
They are really hard to find used here, but there seems to be lots of them in the U.S.
If anyone here knows of one for sale pm me..

Check with Brothers Automotive in Woodbridge. They have Mission all aluminum trailers http://brothersauto.ca/used/885373/W...-MEC-65-X12--- and I'm sure they can add wheel chocks and whatever else you need. Good prices too - just realized their new price is the same as the price of the used one you linked to.

Itcosts in around $2500 plus tax but warranty for floor at 5 years and roof for 3 years so good quality colour matched to my car and i pull it with a 08 cobalt no problems.
bought it from action trailers near waterloo

It weights around 650 pounds and with the 2 bikes around 1800 in total my car is at 2000pds towing.

the 2008 cobalt is rated at 1000 towing lbs. Hope your driving foot is a feather and your changing your transmission oil and filter regularly, not that I would recommend this.

don't be a road crayon, wear your gear, the road doesn't care how "cool" you think you look when it's busy cheese grading your skin.

talked to GM dealer and also checked the manual and both said 2000 max it pulls it no problem dont go over 100 kmh and its fine doesn't even go over 3 rpm when towing
With TAFB the math always equals 16

    Re: Any good bike trailers?

Can anybody comment on safe speeds when hauling trailers?

I like this one, but I'd need it to tow two bikes to Alberta and in the manual it states not to exceed 45mph... that's kind of a joke. I looked up the heavier duty one with 5 lug wheels and it says the same thing again, 45mph.

    Thoughts?

I've pulled some sketchy trailers at much faster speeds and they didn't explode... but ya never know? Whats the biggest factor when it comes to trailer speeds? Tire size? Tire rating?

    Re: Any good bike trailers?

I am not recommending this, but I have had my loaded folding harbour freight trailer up to 140 for a few hundred km run (stopping a couple times to check hub and tire temp. There is a sticker that says not to exceed about 95 km/h on the trailer.

As I was building the trailer I washed out the vaseline looking stuff HF put in the bearings and replaced it wil real grease and have never had any problems.

Towing with a Cobalt? Sounds like there's a bit of confusion about trailer max weight. A Class I hitch is rated for 2,000 pounds. The manufacturer says you can only pull 1,000 pounds with the car. Not sure what dealer you talked to, maybe they just looked at the hitch rating, not the limit of the car. I too would be concerned about transmission longevity. Maybe you'll be OK if you're on flat ground, not in the mountains.

    +1. Agreed.

I seriously doubt a Cobalt would pull 2000 pounds. I think youd be looking for your transmission after a few kms.

I would ideally like a folding one as I live in Toronto.

Primarily for track days so 2 sport bikes.

    Any help appreciated

The are pricey, but worth it. Though I have a single bike model (and I've mounted a pit bull trailer restraint) I have no regrets ponying up the extra cash for it.

Anyone hear of the Stinger trailer? They're located in Brampton; no mention of cost on their site?

I'm looking to tow a MX bike, however, the possibility of towing a SS is nice as well. My only concern is the amount of weight on the tongue - class 1 < 200 lbs. Car is 09 Lancer Sportback.

    Re: Any good bike trailers?

Here's what I got back from Stinger:
    Stinger Trailer $1722.00
    Spare tire $75.00
    Running boards $250.00

    Trailer shipping to Waterloo $488.90
Straps and accessories shipping would be TBD depending on what you purchase
First ship date available is March 12, 2012

    Manufacturers shipping rebate -$100.00
    Dealer incentive -$100.00

So, you're looking at about $2100 plus taxes with a spare tire.
