Towing with a Cobalt? Sounds like there's a bit of confusion about trailer max weight. A Class I hitch is rated for 2,000 pounds. The manufacturer says you can only pull 1,000 pounds with the car. Not sure what dealer you talked to, maybe they just looked at the hitch rating, not the limit of the car. I too would be concerned about transmission longevity. Maybe you'll be OK if you're on flat ground, not in the mountains.

I seriously doubt a Cobalt would pull 2000 pounds. I think youd be looking for your transmission after a few kms.
