Newer model 250 or older model 600?

I want to buy a used bike for next season but I'm not sure whether to get a 2008 Ninja 250r or an older model 600 (which is not on the jevco sport bike list), because I'm not sure I want to spend $3000 on an 08 ninja 250 when I can get something slightly more powerful but older for much less. Im looking to get insured to ride next year when I'm 19 and have had my M2 for a year (for the jevco discount).

How old of a higher displacement bike do you think I would need to be looking for so I could get a similar insurance price as a newer 250? Something like a 2002 Katana 600? The Katana doesn't seem to be on the sport bike list but it still might cost me a lot more to insure, so should I be looking at older than that?

I think in order to get the cheaper Sport Bike premiums from Jevco it needs to be 1995 or older.

The 2002 Katana 600 is not on the jevco sport bike list, but I'm not sure if I need to be looking at even older 600's (which are not on the jevco sport bike list) to get a similar quote as an 08 ninja 250 for a 19 y/o with M2 for 1 year.

Yeah, if the bike is on the list, it has to be 1995 or older. If it isn't on the list, it doesn't matter how old it is. Liability is the largest portion of your quote, not the value of your motorcycle.

Nevertheless, your quotes will be higher still, even for an older 600. Even when there's no surcharge, usually the faster bikes with larger engines command larger premiums.
For me the difference between a Ninja 250 and an older 600 would be about 30% more, which is not too horrible because I don't pay much to begin with.
However, at the age of 19 you'll be paying more so that 30% or maybe even 50% difference may matter to you.

Best thing to do is call the agency.

    I started off on a katana 600...

good bike for me, a 250 would have been way to small...
