the 2010 250s have no petcocks, or at least mine didnt
To start, check that bike is not in gear and that kill/stop switch is in run position. The kill/stop, ignition, kick stand and clutch switches are wired to prevent starting the bike while in gear, which would cause it to lunge forward and possible injure you and bystanders.
If starter motor is not engaging, check main fuse, and connections.
Good luck!

is the new battery charged? boost it? (the old one)
Which make and model of battery did you buy?
Check to make sure you have the lead on the positive terminal and the negative on the negative one and that they are tight (not too tight, just so that it isn't or won't become loose). You should get at least your lights to come on. If not, make sure you actually got the battery charged. As in.... if you just asked for a battery, they are usually not charged up and ready to go.
i'm betting its not the battery , main fuse? no lights nothing? wouldnt be the kill switch then

that is what i was thinking ... batteries i have bought in the past have either:
A. cheaper water based batteries i have to add acid / water then charge ... if you bought one of these but put in no acid / water then you don't have a battery you have a lead weight
B. buying a Gel battery i've always had to put it on for a few hours first.
