Yea, they need to stop it. Let's try and stay on topic.

I was thinking of buying a used bike from a dealer and now thanks to a few of the posts in this thread I know what to watch for from the sales people. And if I like what I see if i go to GP Bikes I'll know beforehand that the waranty is only for the powertrain and I'll negotiate accordingly. Thanks.

as long as you're not expecting a full warranty on a used vehicle, you'll be okay.

Everyone should be doing this regardless. Always check the fine print. Always check the wording.

Do your homework before making a large purchase like this. Questions like "what should I look for when buying a car/motorcycle" are all over the internet. If you march into a dealership blind and ignorant, that's on you. Being a crafty consumer isn't as difficult as it used to be. Knowing what to look for and how to look for it is easy and doesn't take some kind of mystical knowledge that only the mechanically inclined posses.

This thread is a good example of what not to do.

Or they can ghetto fix it by covering the leaky area with liquid gasket, torquing down the cylinder bolts and crossing their fingers. Just sayin'

True, they very well could. I guess I could ask for the old gasket(s).

Just got word from GP Bikes and they of course are only covering what the warranty states, just Power Train. They said they replaced the base gasket, so I'm hoping it won't be an issue anymore. Fingers crossed.

Have a little faith in people. Not all dealers are crooks.

Their service department is run by Ken Livingstone. I’ve known Ken for years and he is a top class mechanic, one of the best. Any work he does you can trust

Not sure which mechanic worked on my bike, but that should be on the work order when I pick up the bike.

Re: GP Bikes not honoring warranty

Picked up bike to and spoke the the Mechanic, Dan. He told me he replaced two gaskets in the top part of the engine. I looked over the bike for a while outside GP Bikes and noticed oil dripping from the bottom of the engine onto the ground. So I went back in and told them. The mechanic came out and told me it was probably the oil that went over the engine when he worked on the bike. There was oil in the skid plate at the bottom.

I'll watch for leaks over the next little while and report back. MAN.... nothing in life is easy :/

You just found that out now?...
Anyways, you still have a couple of weeks before your warranty is up.
Power wash the engine to get all the oil residue off, go for a ride and when you come back just put a piece of cardboard under the bike and if there are any drops, well... your problem still exists. Hopefully not. Good luck!

Yep. That's what I plan on doing when I find the time.

I'm gone all this weekend doing the Durham College M1 Exit course
