I think it's an excellent idea. Would you be willing to organize it?

    RIP rider.

Great idea Shuan. Let us know if the family would be cool with that.

I have put the word out in a couple of places but I have yet to hear back. If this is something that would be in line with the families wishes, I will organize it yes. At this time though, the family has asked for some privacy, which is totally understandable, so I will leave it out there in hopes that I am contacted.

Thank you Shaun. It would be perfectly understandable if his family chooses to not have a large group of motorcycles show up; if that's the case, hopefully they would take some solice in the fact that so many riders are thinking of them.

I rode to the sight yesterday. There is a small memorial on a nearby fence where the accident happened. I took a knee and said a prayer for Ricardo and his family. I looked at the road where the accident occurred and felt a real sadness. I jumped on my bike, gave the throttle 3 rev as a salute, and rode off. Very sad.

RIP Ricardo. Your father does business with my company, and he is going to miss you so much. This is so sad. Haven't prayed in a while, but tonight I will for you and your family.

Charges laid today against dump truck driver.

RIP Rick, hopefully your death brings about a change to more severe charges so people pay attention in the future (driver got criminal negligence causing death instead of the typical failure to yield $165 ticket).

York Regional Police have charged a 55-year-old man in the death of an off-duty police officer, who was fatally struck by a dump truck last year.

Ricardo (Rick) Torchia, a 30-year-old Toronto police constable, was killed in the two-vehicle collision on Highway 7, east of Highway 50, in Vaughan on the afternoon of Aug. 2, 2011.

Police said the eastbound dump truck turned left into a private driveway in front of an eastbound motorcycle, resulting in a collision.

Torchia, who was operating the motorcycle, died at the scene.

Police said the suspect was in possession of a substance, believed to be marijuana, when he was arrested at YRP's 4 District headquarters in Vaughan on Wednesday.

Mississauga resident Jose Coutu is charged with criminal negligence causing death and possession of a controlled substance, police said.

Despite the arrest, police are still seeking information from the public.

Finally a more serious charge in a motor vehicle collision that caused death.
