This may seem silly, but lately when riding, I find myself repeating over and over (in my head) "smidsy". It's difficult to put into words. But, I find it helps me to focus on the traffic around me. Look ahead for potential danger, etc.

Recently I went through a phase where I wanted to eat nothing but gummy worms, and when I didn't have any, I just repeated the words gummy worms over and over again in my head, made it all better
Any of you responders even know what 'smidsy' is the acronym for? Didn't think so. No need to reply. The question is rhetorical Carry on.

I use a tactic to avoid the SMIDSY on a regular basis, more of a UK thing than a North American thing. My M2 exit course didn't cover the SMIDSY.
I heard that smoking is bad for you.
True story.
~Thank you for not smoking
Definitly a UK thing since few people around here call eachother "Mate".
The Smidsy accronym would change depending on where yo uare in the GTA. The "mate" in the acronym would be changed to "boss" or "guy" or "dude".
Most likely the acronym is absolete here as no one admits fault and the rest drive away without stopping.

"Sorry Mate, I Didn't See You..." This is your mantra? You need to put some tunes on Mate!
If repeating "Smidsy" gets you to red alert, then go for it. It is certainly better than repeating "inattentional blindness". One rider on here, V-tom, is big on smidsy. Search for his posts. I am still trying to figure out how to prevent inattentional blindness in other drivers. In their eyes you are literally filtered out of their conscious vision by their brain, so what do you do to "reappear" in their brain?
There is also the theory of motion camouflage. Smidsy is a lot easier to say.
Just for fun check out this video on inattentional blindness. It is famous.

Thanks for the links. It's not so much what I "do". When riding, I just try to be more aware of potential situations where a driver could claim they didn't see me.

TorontoBoy. Watched the video. Got the answer right. But, failed on the other. Won't give away the "other" in case others want to check it out too
