As of today, a little bit of sand on the sides of the road in certain sections and some light gravel in the middle in others, but still very clean. Will not experience any imperfections at all if you hold the inside tire track.
Was just on this road a few days ago, they utterly destroyed it with the new pavement they put down. Still a very good scenic road, but I wouldn't suggest twisting the throttle too much, my tires kept trying to find grooves and was sliding around a bit. Still a great scenic route, but it's no longer what it use to be in terms of speed.
" Run as fast as you can, then jump and slide on the pavement. Now think of traveling at 80 MPH and doing the same. Don't be a squid, wear proper gear. "
Now if only they could do something about those damn elephants...
Anyone know any good routes to and from Elephant Lake Rd?

What is the new pavement? Sounds like float top.
I would say it is very hard packed gravel, it has the rocks that make a sparkle when the sun hits them.
Only 2 ways to access the road. One you need to turn off from the 648 highway ( if you take the 507, it ends at the 503 in Gooderham. If you continue straight on that road it will take you to the 648. ), while the other is to get on from the small town of Maynooth. If you are looking to connect from the Maynooth side the road is called Peterson road, but then turns into Elephant lake road when you hit in and around the Martinwood resort area. Those are the only 2 entrances / exits to and from the road.Anyone know any good routes to and from Elephant Lake Rd?

Yea for sure, you can comfortably go 100 - 120 and probably push into the 135 range. The scenery itself makes the road worthwhile.

507 north -> 503 WEST -> CR3 north (Glamorgan Rd) -> 118 East -> CR4 east (Essonville Rd) -> 648 (Loop Rd) North -> Elephant Lake Rd/Peterson Rd East) -> 62 south to Bancroft -> 28 south -> Lower Faraday Rd -> 620 -> 504 -> 28
Here's a link to a google map of this route:

You can insert some other nice roads between end of Peterson Rd and Bancroft.

Thanks for the Routes V-Tom, and everyone else for their input.
Went for a nice 10 hour ride Yesterday to Elephant lake and back. About 700kms round trip.
Just as the Doc said, the new layer of road at Elephant lake is pretty weird. It also feels a bit like washboard at some parts but not quite. Still well worth the drive for the scenery and the great roads.

was on Elephant lake friday, and I thought the road was good, I didn't notice any bumps or weird stuff and I was taking it pretty fast, even swapped bikes and ripped it up on a CBR1000
Not wearing gear while riding is like unprotected sex. Sooner or later you're going to get a rash!
