PA or Quebec? - (4 days)

    SO I have July 30 - Aug 2nd off.

    Where should I go?

I've never been to PA or Quebec. Thinking about trailing the bikes over there and spending 2-3 days there riding some good roads / seeing some sights.

    Any recommendations?

I've been told once you start riding the states, you're spoiled forever.

Grew up in Quebec - moved here when I was 42 - so I know of which I speak (write)
PA roads are far superior and countryside south of HWY 6 is laced with a network of vistas and roads which can have you going east west south and north without ever being on the same road! Google Maps will show you the roads and compare them to Quebec's - you'll see from the air what I mean. Towns are all bike friendly and warmly receptive. Motels are plentiful and cheap. Food is cheap. US $$ is cheap. Gas is $3.75 a gallon. Beer is Cheap. Roads are empty - all yours.
Quebec: People are often arrogant if you are from Ontario - maudit anglais! Motels are $20.00 to $40.00 more expensive - for nothing. Food ain't cheap and gas is a rip off. Roads are relatively few and quite busy. North of Ottawa is better that north of Montreal - less population. When I was there the BEST road was south to NY and the Adirondacks! QPP love to pull over bikers, so that's an added expense. Eastern township to Sherbrook and smalll anglo communities are nice and quiet, but not worth the time and distance - don't forget Montreal is 4.5 hours from the GTA at 120 kms/hr Slow down when entering Quoibek - cops see every Ontario plate as a contribution to their pension plan.
Sorry - nothing good to say about Quoibek.

I rode to Mont Tremblant once. Roads were bumpy as hell and it was farther than Lake Placid and not as nice. People were ok there though I imagine the larger cities are a different story. PA is nicer than Quebec, closer and cheaper. However, PA cannot hold a candle to the Adirondacks, Vermont, New Hamphshire or the Southern Appalachians. PA has one thing going for it. It's the closest.

Gettysburg is a neat destination, especially if your interested in the civil war history, which I am not, but still found it incredibly interesting. A great destination road wise for scenery is the Wellsboro area. Lots of hiking and outdoor activities to keep you busy.

PA and eastern Ohio. Some food stops were so cheap that you end up grinning when you see the tab. A beer and something to eat is like a McD happy meal. Don't expect veggie low fat cuisine though. They're trying to figure our how to deep fry beer.

OK! Big question of the day. Should we trailer the bikes to PA or ride them there?

I would ride, its not that far, and just getting into PA there is some beautiful scenery that is best enjoyed outside the confines of a tin box. Ultimately do what you enjoy, for me, no question, its ride.

PA is only half a day away and the scenery is pretty good.
