Hopefully if the weather agrees next weekend I'll be riding from Guelph to Bracebridge and back. Dont mind going a little out of the way but I dont want to stray too much as its important to get there. Anyone have any route ideas as I dont know any good roads up that way and would like it to be more interesting than taking the main highways.
Not sure about Highway 11 its been awhile since I've been up there, but 401 and 400 are boring.

ARe you talking about good roads to Bracebridge from Guelph or around Bracebridge to ?
From Guelph, From the Second Cup on Gordon and College, find124 N ( old highway 24, Eramosa Road ) go north then at Orangeville, go east on Highway 9 to the 400 or Follow 124 up till Collingwood, then go East on 26 to Barrie, then 400 N to either Muskoka Rd 38 through Whata to Bala and then go north along 169 to 118 and then turn E, or stay on the 400 go to 141 and there you go, you are in Bracebridge.....
These roads are in good shape, lots to see and if you plenty of oppourtunity to meander off in other directions.

Head up Hwy 6, turn right on 22 (at Foxcreek Winery sign), left on road that takes you to the Arthur-Orangeville road (sorry I don't know the name but think it's #9).
From Orangeville you're on your own. LOL

Yeah, live in Guelph and have to go to a wedding in Bracebridge, suit will go up with someone else, lol.
Will be a lit more fun and cheaper on the bike, just don't want to get back and find out I missed a great road if people on here know of them.
This route avoids all of the 401, most of the 400, and the most boring parts of 11, but still provides a reasonably direct route to Bracebridge. All the lesser roads are scenic and good pavement, and they include parts of the Forks and Hockley Valley Roads. That looks great, just might have to do two different routes up and back. So I notice Hockley Valley, but where are the Forks that I hear so much about? Too bad, was in Orangeville just on the weekend and didnt even know about the Hockley Valley road.
Look for Cataract on the map, just east of Erin. The Forks is the part of the road just under the Cataract label, runs between Mississauga Rd and Hurontario St (Highway 10).
One part I would suggest skipping is # 44 north of Casino Rama, I was up that way a few weeks ago and there was lots of construction, several bridges down to one rough dirt lane with temporary stop lights that took a while to get thru.
Just continue up Hwy 11 and get off at either 169 Washago or the next exit Cooper Falls Rd.
Well, that sucks. It looked like they had recently finished a big round of construction last time I went through through. I guess I may miss that part when I head up again to the July bike races in North Bay.
Yeah I got caught in some bad construction on that road last year...kind of figured that it was all done...that's why I went that way on my bike
I took this route up to hwy11 on Friday but then just stuck on 11 as I was running late. Thanks for the route.....awesome ride. I started in burlington and shot across Trafalgar to Georgetown to the forks and so on. 401-400-11 is just far too boring and congested with minivan drivers who don't compensate for the extra 12' of tent trailer they're towing when they decide to change lanes.

No problem. I like the route, not a lot of traffic on it in most places, and easy on the eyes.
Next time, maybe try shooting up the Guelph Line to Highway 7, east on 7 to the traffic lights in Rockwood, north from the traffic lights in Rockwood to 124, and then east from there to Erin, Belfountain, and the Forks.
Alternately go up the Guelph Line and on north from Campbellville to the PetroCanada station at 15 Sideroad, and then head east until you reach Trafalgar Road just outside Georgetown. From there head north to Ballinafad, turn east on the 32 Sideroad to go to the Ninth Line, and then north on Ninth Line until you reach the stop sign just past the cemetery on the south edge of Erin. Turn right at the stop sign and head east into Belfountain and the Forks.
Either route will give you some added relaxed country riding and keep you away from the worst of the minivan drivers on Trafalgar.

Thanks for the tips. My folks actually live about 5 mins from that petro on 15 but I've never really been thru Ballnafad or Erin so I just stuck to the major roads. Next time I'm heading north I'll make sure I leave early and hit that route up. I'd rather take an extra 30mins and have a more fun ride than gas it there and skip all the twisty bits lol

Thanks again for the routes. Such nice scenery around and is a shame if you don't know about it. Hockley valley was really nice but the Forks was amazing. Not much traffic through there during the week as I went up but tons on the weekend on Sun coming back. Now just need to build up practice and confidence on some of those tighter turns. I was taking it slow and easy but some of the guys there can really take them quick.
