    bungee cord scratches

I've got a suzuki GS500f and use it mainly to ride to work. I take a bag with me for my stuff and stick it behind me on the seat and use two bungee cords to secure the bag to the bike. I've noticed that the bungee cords have scratched the plastics on both sides of the bike. I've even taped bandages around the bungee metal fasteners but it looks like it's still causing damage to the plastic. Any solutions out there? Is there a better product out there for securing stuff to you bike?

Clear plastic/vinyl film stickers works for me.

Just apply the clear film on the bike, where the bungies touch the plastic - virtually invisible protection.

I use a roll of something like this.

Rok Straps are infinitely superior to bungees. Available at a motorcycle accessory retailer near you.

How about these as an alternative.

What's to stop those from scratching the paint as they rub against it?

I know. I saw them there a few weeks ago... I was quite shocked - pricing was very good as well.

They don't seem to be listed here --> http://www.rokstraps.com/distributors/distributors.html

But neither are any of the Cycle shops that I know carry them.

The Zellers I saw them at was - http://www.yellowpages.ca/bus/Ontari...&le=61172475da

Just looked through my email - seems I was surprised enough to take a pic of them when I saw them, and emailed it to a friends wife as a gift suggestuion.

Somebody on the forum mentioned using electrical tape to cover your paint area.

The two sets of Rok Straps I have do not feature hooks. They have webbing loops at both ends. Not sure I want the hooks.

I saw that, maybe Zellers and Rona are just selling the hook style which is not what the OP should be buying. Hoops/loops on the end is the way to go.

I don't know! My GF has the same bike as the op, and she regularly uses a tailbag that has 4 bunnies, with coated metal hooks. A few strips of clear knock off 3m film and she doesn't have a single scratch on the tail section after 4 years.

The hoops an loops are sometimes better, but I wouldn't say they are always better. Really depends what you are hooking up to.
