Not as hard as my decision to stop playing rugby. I love the sport, but my hips can't handle it, especially since little things can throw them off. Quit your job because you have to work and can't go to a miss TMP contest? really? You do know that there are tons of things like this right? I am pretty sure that she could go to one of the other events if she really wanted to. You don't have to live to work but I don't understand why you would tell someone to quit a job over something like this.

+1...Finally, somebody that makes sense.My impression was some crappy job, with the typical boss on a power trip, and this competition was very important to the OP.
I just don't get how anyone would allow a boss to have that much power over them - at anytime - ever.
Perhaps I live in a different REALITY - ?

Phoning in sick and then going to an event as you suggested is a totally different thing from asking the boss if you can attend. If I was the boss I would fire someone for the latter and probably let them go to the event for the former. Reality is realising that it's not all about you everytime.
