Well, figure I will post up my current project. My daily bike is a 1981 CB900c that I got from my father (who bought it new back in the day). Awesome bike, runs great and I know the engine/bike fairly well. When I seen this 83 CB1000c come up on Kijiji last summer I jumped on it. Got a good deal on it.

I know the bike very well and it is fairly rare - only made one year. I don't expect it will be worth a lot but I like the fact that I have a somewhat rare bike, if you want to call it that. Had lots of work to do, and still have some left.

When I bought it, the battery was garbage so I never got to hear it run or drive it. Trusted the guy. Took out engine, did all work last summer/spring and had its first start this summer when I reassembled. Started right up. I was happy. Drove fine too - just took a tour around the block once.

What I did:

- Took out engine and de-greased everything
- Got stock seat
- Got stock grab handle
- Added the case savers
- Replaced ignition, tank cap, helmet holder
- Got a new tank, old one had pinhole and big dents, lots of interior rust
- Rebuilt carbs
- New oil cooler seals/bolts
- Oil drain/filter of course
- Buffed up exhaust and welded cross pipe
- Added center stand
- Added OEM toolbox
- Sanded side covers, repaired posts on side covers, reshaped one with heat, primed, painted, cleared, new badges
- Replaced pods with stock airbox
- Repainted some black parts, sidestand for example
- Rebuilt rear caliper/bled brakes
- Replaced shifter and brake pedal
- Removed SOS (autopetcock)

What I have left to do:

(in no particular order)
- Fix wiring for horn and turn signals
- Verify all 10 gears working
- Finish pinstriping side covers
- Replace valve cover with unpainted (OEM look)
- Sync carbs (bought a Morgan CarbTune)
- Check valve clearances and replace shims as needed - might rebuild head
- Retap a couple threads
- Might get OEM signals for it
- Drive testing
- New brake pads all around

Let me know what you think!

I will add some pictures of my 81 900c for comparison.

My next project will be an early 80s 750c street machine or a v-twin anything.
