    Exclamation 1994 ZZR 400 insurance???

Hi i have located a 1994 Kawasaki ZZR 400, imported from Japan, i was thinkin to make it my first bike in Canada but meloche monnex dont have this model and therefore cant insure me,

    i am 22 (turning 23 this july)

M2 obtained in (july 2006, humber safety course) (about 5yrs old, upgrading to M as soon as i get my bike)

Full G license with about 6 years experience

I have 2 minor convictions (10 over and disobey sign)

    i live in Ajax, (L1S 5Y5)

    i got a qouted for a 2004 ninja 250r for $650 a year
    & for a 2004 GS500F $950
but they are unable to quote me for a 1994 zzr400,
i called some broker and he quoted abt $2500 a year, lolz y would i pay abt 1500 more on a bike that is 100 cc less and fall in the same sport touring category?

if anybody can get me a quote around $1000 i would call it a decent rate but anything over that goes out of my budget as $4000 is all wat i can afford ($3000 for bike and $1000 for 1 year insurance)

let me know what insurance options are available for me,
Thanks in advance for helping a fellow rider out

If you want a bike to ride, you should look elsewhere. Grey market bikes are notoriously hard to get parts for (or find a mechanic that has seen one before) and an 18 year old bike will need parts. They are cool toys to pick up later, but for a daily rider, you are much better off with a bike that was actually distributed in this country. I have an old car that used to be sold in Canada and was sold in huge numbers in other parts of the world and it stills takes a long time (and normally more money than I wanted/expected) to get parts. Having the vehicle broken for a year while you track down parts is not unexpected.

Insuring imported vehicles is not easy. Before I could even get a quote on mine I needed to send a certified appraisal to Monnex. The appraisal cost >$100 (and you need to find an appraiser that is comfortable with your vehicle) so checking many vehicles is painful both in time and money.

There is a reason you see so many Ninja 250's and GS500's running around and so few grey-market bikes.

I concur. Forget about gray area imports. They are more for serious hobbyists.
If you like bikes from that era - FZR400 was distributed in Canada for 2 years and it is easier to insure and find parts for, albeit still not nearly as easy as Ninja or EX500.

Well i already did my research on CBR 400, GSXR 400, Vfr 400, ZX4, and all the other grey imports and the zzr400 is the only grey import that wont be giving me problem on parts as it is the exact same bike as zzr600 A.k.A ZX6, from my knowledge only the engine internals and carb sizes are different, infact a zzr400 is my ideal buy as i could swap in a zzr600 motor in it once i feel comfortable(a year or two), i am mechanically inclined with cars so swappin the motor in a bike would be an added experience for me, and if i swap in a 600 motor , do u really think i would let insurance know abt it, eventually i was plannin dat i wud b payin insurance on a 400 and riding a 100hp 600. Statefarm is insuring the bike but want approx $2500 whis is not ideal at d moment, only if Meloche Monnex had zzr400 in thier list. ...........................oh well Anybody sellin a ZZR 250

    Re: 1994 ZZR 400 insurance???

If you want cheaper insurance then you don't have to worry about swaps, ZZR600 is not classified as a super sport. You should be able to insure it with Jevco for way less than $100 a month, depending on your age and record of course.
And the 2005-08 model was simply a 2000-02 ZX-6R so actually over 100HP and much much lighter than the previous gen ZZR.

The 2004 model and older was like a ZZR400, you're right.

Or just get an SV650S, which is what I did. Cheap on insurance, extremely reliable and unbeatable low end torque from the V-twin.
Ted (Rosey Toes) told me to keep my SV when I was thinking about getting a ZZR and that guy knows something about bikes.
