thanks to gas prices i'm running 87 octane in my R6... surprisingly with no noticeable difference in terms of performance or engine noise no knocks or pings..

Just keep your ears open when the weather gets warmer. The other risk is that you may not hear preignition at higher RPMS.

I killed my 5.0 V8 with preignition at 6000 RPM. I was running 94 octane with 13.5:1 compression. Collapsed 3 pistons. Didn't hear a thing until I got home and the dipstick was up against the hood and oil down the firewall. Blow-by could suspend a tennis ball.
