The louder the pipe, the cheaper the insurance...

Why do people insist on getting loud pipes on their bikes?
Is it considered a safety feature? If so, do insurance companies lower their premiums if you tell them about it?
The louder the pipe, the cheaper the insurance...
We do it so we can drown out the whining of people who complain about it on the internet and put pictures of their poodles in their avatars.
No real reason otherwise.

Last time I recalled you had a sideburner on your bike! What is louder then that that you are referring to?

Loud pipes save lives is a myth. Insurance will put that under mods and premium could go up.
So....don't tell insurance companies and put the pipe cuz it looks sweet and is loud, put in dem earplugs and annoy people.....
I see it's already working :P
I was not a part of that class.

If you want quiet and safe, get a camry.
To my mind one of the reasons that motorcycles aren't allowed in the HOV lanes.
Its only a matter of time before the government cracks down and confiscates vehicles with off-road exhausts. Either that or we will all be put into the purgatory of doing drive clean tests.
Please smarten up guys and gals.

PS: Anyone with doubts about pipes try what I did: Ride a 50cc scooter in downtown Toronto, then ride any midsize bike with an aftermarket exhaust and let me know if loud pipes don't make a difference.

First thing we did to the wee CBR is put a can on it. You couldn't even tell it was running while stopped at a light.

Some pipes can sound good loud - some sound terrible. Looking at the Ninja 250R, an Area P, Hindle or Yoshimura pipe sounds good. I know someone who has an "MGP Growler" pipe on their 250 - it sounds terrible. Makes my ears bleed. I would rather listen to the bike with no pipe at all.
