hopefully 2005 r6.
My new ride is my old ride, but I'm upgraded that absolute garbage shock to a works performance. apparently any shock upgrade makes a huge difference on the ex500 as it was undersprung.
waiting another year and then my 2012 will be a duc monster.
for now, ghetto bucket will still do.
Engine size is compensation for tiny odometers. // You either drag knee in -3 or pose in 20.
2001 ex500 420+ km on a single tank. Mods: Digital Speedomoter / Corbin Seat / Works Performance Shock / braided brake lines / fake pezzo levers / integrated mirror+turn signals / gps power cord + ram mount / heated grips. / Heat troller for winter gear Fairing repair tutorial
I hear ya, I even thought about putting clipons on my monster before but decided to just get an SS instead of SSing my old bike. Still though, I could see myself riding a Speed Triple with clipons and some new rearsets, that would be a fun bike. Sadly it gets the SS surcharge from pretty much everyone.

If you are under 30yo, you will only get good rates on an SS through State Farm, and they really couldn'y care less how long you have been riding -- they only care how long you've been driving (whether it's a bike or a car). You have to have five years of experience under you belt, and also have your full G. If you satisfy these requirements, then you might get affordable SS insurance.
The "one year of riding experience" is more of a Jevco thing, and they aren't into insuring SS bike (i.e. they have a 425% surcharge).
I'm an Actuarial Analyst for a Major Canadian Insurance Company. I analyse claims patterns to determine overall rate changes, as well as relative premium differences by various risk characteristics (eg. age, experience, claims, convictions, usage, etc.)
Unless it's private, please post insurance-related questions in the forum rather than sending me a PM.

Not new anymore. 1200 KMS and somewhat disassembled in my garage.
Tail tidy and, black Renthals and levers were all I got last season.
Taking all the grey/silver out of it with aftermarket and powdercoats but going to keep it logo free.
