SM cost buying vs building

Hi everyone

I've been interested in trying SM, and I'm trying to figure out weather its in the budget or not.
From reading some of the posts I see that everyone is of the same opinion that buying a race ready bike is cheaper that building one, so what are the ball park costs of buying a race ready bike? and what would it cost to build one.

I'll sell you a national level 450 racer for about $5k, with all the SM and MX stuff included.



To build one, you've gotta start with an MX bike platform, so say, $3500 for a used bike.

Add:
wheels: $1000
Brakes: $250-$500

now you're at $5k for an MX bike with 17in wheels, which isn't REALLY a supermoto bike.

Do you know if there are places where one could rent an sm bike?
I've never ridden sm or dirt. It looks like a blast but I would like to try it out before spending 5k

back to the original topic, ive built one and bought one, i got way more bike for far less when i bought it already built, if i sell i will be removing the supermoto stuff, selling the dirtbike and selling the supermoto stuff separately
