Re: Tool Kits - Beyond stock for emergency road or trail side repairs
I have the moose front fender pack, same as you linked:
In that I keep my tire patching kit, air pump, siphon hose, and spare spark plug.
On my rear fender I have a CruzTools DMX2 pack - great pack, I highly recommend it:
In addition to what comes in the kit I also carry a 15 foot tow rope, a bunch of various sized zipties, some blue shop towels, etc. The pack is rather large and my extra stuff fits in there easily with room to spare in fact.
Re: Tool Kits - Beyond stock for emergency road or trail side repairs
That DMX2 kit caused me some major tool drool until I assembled this kit. I probably should have just spent the money. My tow rope is currently zip tied to the passenger grab rails. I'm going to need some new glue for next years patch kit. lol.

Re: Tool Kits - Beyond stock for emergency road or trail side repairs
Yeah, Bit is the one who first introduced me to that kit (well the fanny pack version which he strapped to his rear cargo rack). We've had a few bikes break down on us during rides, and that kit has always saved the day.
As far as the air pump goes, if the one you have is too long or bulky, check out Mountain Equipment Co-Op. They have a large selection of decent pumps that will do the job. Again, Bit carried one of these, so I had to pick one up as well! Here's the one I got ($18):
Re: Tool Kits - Beyond stock for emergency road or trail side repairs
I picked up a C02 valve and cartridge kit at Mountain Equipment Coop downtown for ten dollars for two cartridges and a decent valve. That coupled with my old dbl stroke bicycle pump and I'm okay for a tube or tire repair on the KLR.
I really like tire spoons as opposed to levers, but the Magnum brand I bought had lousy tips and bent. These Motion Pro levers are really well made.
Motion Pro Tire Spoon
Fits: All Motorcycle Tires
Canadian Retail price $19.95
Our Price: $15.95
You save $4.00!
The Motion Pro Tire Spoon is by far the top tool with our customers! There is nothing else on the market that makes your life this much easier for under $20! Spoon Tire Irons are great for the garage, shop or the road. These Irons are compact and light, yet provide excellent leverage. The thin round profile and wide spoon shaped lip is designed to keep the tip of the tire iron away from the tube to prevent pinching, and the ergonomically designed curved handle will fit securely in your hand. The loop on the end provides an excellent surface for your palm to rest while you are maneuvering the tire bead. These spoon irons are a notch above standard tire iron designs. They provide faster tire changes without abusing your hands.
Unique spoon shape to ease tire removal and installation
Large curved end fits securely in the hand and reduces the change of your now "lubed" hands slipping
Hard nickel pewter finish for lasting looks and protection
10" long for easy tool roll use and still long enough for easy tire installation
