2.5 not 3.5 to.correct the last post. I think anyways.

I'm sorry the sound wasn't good for.you btjunkie. Maybe you have a bad unit? I can hear phone, riders, and music a-ok. As mentioned though its not high fidelity but I'm OK with that. I just used the built in Velcro sticky to attach them behind the foam padding in my helmet, the sound carried fine. My new vortex though I didn't need to do that as it has empty space for earphones.
I've used these with my old.iPhone and now my android, and it worked the same.

No issue switching from intercom to music, just understand when you switch back the music is paused. You have to push again to unpause. Nifty feature so your phone.doesn't just keep playing music when you're not listening.

    Pairing
Just thought I'd update with a note about pairing after running into some confusion. while I had no issue pairing the 2 units from the same box I did have an issue pairing a 3rd. what you need to do is have both units OFF, then turn on at the same time, then when both on, click the intercom button on one of them. maybe I did that before and simply forgot.
the manual covers this but I glazed over that section and was stuck in a parking lot scratching my *** with a buddy equally confused.
after the unit has paired with another unit, it should be stored in memory and never take more than a push of the intercom button again. I think...

    3 way
we tried 3 way chat as well. it's 1->1<-1 though. if that diagram makes sense. my unit was paired with both friends, and pushing the intercom button swapped me between both of them. we couldn't talk all at the same time and I had to act like a hub to relay messages. clearly 3 at the same time is better, but I'd rather not pay $400 more for the feature.

I'm unclear on whether only one person can act as a hub, or if they could have swapped as well without me. that will have to wait for next time. looking forward to trying to find a way for 4 way to also work.
    so many dirty thoughts.

Thanks for all the updates/review fyrebug. Just ordered these based on your posts, went with a US ebay seller, 100 US shipped (same box, up to 7 hrs talk time). Excited to try this out, wish we had them on our trip to Cape Breton last year.

Anyone know where to get the extension cable? I've been hunting all over..The only place I can find is in asia on ebay. I just got my unit yesterday and leave on a trip next week, so I want to find something local.
    Thanks

Excellent writeup, thanks. I just ordered mine from Amazon. Just $8 more than DX, but much faster shipping:

I don't think it's UPS, not for the $5.74 S&H. If it ends up arriving via UPS and they try to charge me their extortion fee I'll just refuse and dispute the payment with my credit card company. I'll post here when it arrives - Delivery estimate: May 23, 2011 - June 1, 2011

Not sure if the cc company will back you up since they'll say the brokerage fee is your responsibility and you should've known before ordering. As long as it's delivered to your door the cc company might not back you up.

Just contact the vendor to be safe! Cheers.

If I don't sign for it, it wasn't delivered :>. It would be an interesting exercise in consumer rights and especially satisfying if I stick it to the man. I wasn't informed of any additional fees, I paid my item in full including S&H and most of all I didn't give my consent to anyone to act as my "broker". The whole "brokerage fee" extortion racket isn't worth the paper it's (not) written on. However,

I don't need the grief, so I contacted the vendor just in case. I'll save flexing my rights for some other time.

It is extortion and total ********. Usually sites like amazon have it covered and have it written at the bottom in a disclaimer "not responsible for duties, taxes, brokerage fees etc..."

How to self clear shipment at CBSA and avoid UPS brokerage fee

I haven't tried this myself. I'm just posting for information purposes.
I personally avoid UPS. Their brokerage fees are extortionary.

That's interesting info, thanks to both of you for providing it. However, I'd much rather stick to the mantra "If UPS is the only shipping option, the item will not be purchased.". The only way to teach those bastards anything is to stop using their service.

Interesting, I did something similar around six years ago. Back then though, I was under the impression that you had to clear the package at the point that it enters Canada. So the process was that you called UPS and told them to hold it at their warehouse where it entered Canada. For ground shipments which is where UPS charges brokerage, the entry point is likely Windsor. Drove to Windsor, picked up an invoice from UPS, drove that over to the customs office, paid my taxes, tool the receipt back to UPS and they released the package to me right there.

Went to the casino afterwards and won a couple hundred bucks, to make it worthwhile
