I like this bike. Get a carbon fiber slip-on, something that looks like the shorty on K6/K7 gsx-r's and you got yourself a cool little bike with ABS, Fuel injection etc. I think Kawasaki is going to have to put some thought into their 250 now.

I love the idea of light wieght, small cc bikes but this thing is ugly. And the single cylinder isnt helping much. If it were a 4 cylinder that would be cool. Since it has the light of the vfr, it should have a v4. Now that would make an awesome bike.

    Re: 2011 cbr 250

If this were a 4 cylinder, it would cost roughly the same as a CBR600RR because the parts count is essentially the same. Would you still be interested at *that* price? thought so ...

A single or a twin is the right choice for an engine this size. Single cylinder keeps the price down. It has already been stated that they expect to be price competitive with the Ninja 250. Simpler engine, but ... fuel injected, digital speedo, and I think it looks better. It will go just fine on the highway ... there isn't significantly more aerodynamic drag than with a CBR125, and I ride my 125 on the highway (except when it's really windy, like today), and this has twice the power.

The availability of ABS is the game-changer here. It remains to be seen how that's going to affect the price tag.

i must say this black one looks nice, except for the can, soo ugly, make it look more like the 125's pipe
and the red white and blue one, the colour scheme makes it looks like 80s or 90s styling, really interested to see how it looks when it hits stores
all in all, 250 seems a bit small, something like a start-from-scratch made 400 or 350 would be perfect between the 125 and 600

I still think that there would be a market for a 250-400cc 4 cyclinder bike. Yes it would cost around the price of the cbr600, but i think that the lower insurance would be the advantage.

FI, ABS? This is going to be a 6 thousand plus dollar 250 if Honda Canada's usual pricing habits apply.

They've jacked the rates up on 250cc vehicles so much it's really not worth it for young people not to bother starting larger anymore. Before there was a huge difference in the cost of insurance, not the 250cc class has risen so much more relative to higher displacement bikes that starting small has lost a big part of it's appeal.

Well.. even with my M class licence pre 25 years old I pay $800/year for a 250. On a 600, I pay $2000/year. That is a savings worth talking about. Post 25 years old & married my rates are significantly lower.

    Re: 2011 cbr 250

Apparently the price in Thailand is 100,000 BHT for non-ABS and 115,000 BHT for ABS model. 29.4 BHT = 1 C$ so this is $3400 and $3900. Keep in mind that Thailand is where this bike is built, and a CBR150 (previous model - comparable to CBR125) is around 75,000 BHT ($2550). Should give some idea. Even if you add a grand to that to cover EPA / Transport Canada certification and shipping etc, it's still promising.

I suppose the $11,000 MSRP for the KTM Duke 690 is RIDICULOUS to you then? *GASP* A single cylinder worth 11G!!! Clearly all single cylinders are only worth $2000.

Your logic is flawed. The Honda NEW CBR250R (MC41 - to differentiate it from the old MC19's and MC22's CBR250 inline 4's) is quite technologically advanced for a 250 by looking at the options and spec sheet. If Kawi sells the Ninja 250R for 5500 out the door, I would expect the MC41 to go for 6000-6500 out the door for C-ABS model and would have no problem paying that. I'm sure it will move just as good as the Ninja 250R and do it with a much nicer spec sheet. Like I said, C-ABS, Digital speedo/dash, fuel injection.. All nicer then the Canadian spec Ninja 250R.

Ok I apologize... I do like KTMs. But for you to say you would pay that much for a 250.... no wonder manufacturers are charging us this much. If you are rich sure... but most people who buy a 250 are not.

Btw... nice bike you have 250rr... wish I had one few years ago when it was still new.

Your renewal rate will go up. That $800 is what I paid as well. It'll jump to $1,200. And a 600cc bike wasn't what I had in mind. Your rate on a 600cc SS is more than on an 800cc cruiser.

Totally agree. Let see how long they will boys from Kawasaki stick to the carbs now and what will that do to their future pricing (since they've raised the price few times since the overhaul without really improving the bike) .... Good times for anyone looking for a first bike or fun second bike.

    Nice bike!

I think it will be a hit.

Its definitely looks modern and sleek.

Definitely will give Kawi a run for the money.

Thankfully all my rates went down. Like I said, I turned 25 AND got married this year. Both helped drop my rates to a much cheaper level. I also live north of Barrie so don't have the GTA insurance premium to deal with. Oh, my bikes are also on a plan with my house and cars insurance too so that helped as well. My 600 is now $1000/year and the 250 $400/year - liability only on the old bikes.
