Angry Well, I got smacked good.

Me, sitting at a stop sign near 10th line and Bloomington a week ago Friday. Him, driving forward but looking left to check traffic and blow the stop sign. BAM! Bike shoots forward, falls to the right on my leg, then momentum carries me, rolling several times and ending up on the gravel shoulder. Can't get up because both legs are badly banged, knees swollen (even though I had my Joe Rocket pants on). Helmet scraped, wrist, shoulder and innards hurt. Ambulance comes, I pass out. Wake up with a guy trying to shove a tube down my throat.

Hours later, no broken bones, but on crutches, bike trashed, wife not speaking to me. May have ligament damage in left knee. I miss 3 days work, constant pain, 6-month-old bike may be a write-off. Guy phones me to ask if we can skip the insurance and he'll just pay me under the table. Me: "Oh yeah, just give me a couple hundred and we'll call it even... Peckerhead. I should have been out riding today, except I can hardly walk!

Glad to hear you are OK, (by that I mean not worse than you are.) That is every riders nightmare as it is almost completely out of your control.
I live very close to where it happened and have admittedly taken to a false sense of comfort in riding roads "north" of the city. I did have a similar situation at 10th and 7, driver behind me looked left and proceeded, fortunately I had just finished a crash avoidance course through my work and got far enough to the right that he only just clipped my rear left turn signal. I had this guy promise me over and over on the side of the road "I will watch for motorcycles, I will watch for motorcycles".
I hope you have a speedy recovery.
Knees, shoulder, back ... yikes, even if they heal well those injuries can come back to haunt you later in life.

Glad to hear you're relatively unhurt. Go through insurance.

Thanks all. I'm assuming he got charged, though I don't know for sure. Unfortunately, this has reinforced all the bad things my wife thinks about riding, so there's that to deal with. Still waiting to hear about whether it's a write-off. Definitely going through insurance all the way. Might even talk to a lawyer. This has put quite a monkey wrench in my life, but hopefully only temporarily. I'm already itching to get back out there. What a great weekend this would have been to ride. Saw lot's of you out there. Enjoy, but watch your back!

Thanks for the post... I often ride around that area as well and was starting to have the "north is a bit safer" mentality... Great reminder. GWS rider!

Ouch. Heal up soon. You may need physio for the knee. Ligament damage takes a long time to heal.

Definitely go through insurance, as the long term effects of a rear ender may not be immediately apparent. Do you have any neck pain. Whiplash is common because your neck hyper extends due to the impact.

ouch, sorry to hear. The idiot in my accident wanted to pay me under the table too. I told him its at least 2k worth of damage, I don't think so. It ended up being around $4k plus I got a rental for over a month.

Take the CASH under the table, sign nothing, record nothing, leave no paper trail, then claim it on insurance anyways. Lets see how smart he feels after that.

The bike will cost peanuts compared to the care, rehab, and time off work you will suffer.

Hope you heal quick, but get a personal injury lawyer and sue the clown that hit you for damages and time off work.
You could possibly have a serous knee injury, that may take awhile to heal.
