I saw an ice race back once in the 80's in Austria - it was a hoot! I'm too old to do it myself now, but I'd be happy to be the official Tim Horton's coffee supply vehicle...

Hi there... I'm trying to get some winter bikers interested in meeting...
More specifically, this would be using studded dirtbikes to do laps in snow...
these links may give some hints as to what could ultimately happen in toronto vicinity...

It's already happening and has for years. Check out lake Scugog every winter.
Is there any information for spectators? Race times and the like?

How about the Welland Canal in Niagara? I'm hoping to try myself one day.

This is the MOST fun you can have on a motorcycle.
With a properly built set of tires you have more traction on the ice than you do on the best day of summer with a set of slicks on a brand new racetrack.
I signed up with the Welland County MC Club's newsletter, but I was hoping there'd be something a bit closer to home like Scugog or Simcoe. I'm not interested in studding the KLR, it'd just find new ways to let me down, besides, it's getting bored out and having some valve work done to it this winter.
Hopefully there'll be an event or two I can bundle up and drag a couple of friends along to see this year. Feel free to give a shout out if you hear of something.

So cool
I would love to try this.
Where can we get properly set up tires for this?
Wish I had an old set to use as cores for them to be set up...
And figure I would need a jetting change and ready to go.
I missed practically my entire riding season and have a brand new bike with 3 rides sitting in the garage, would like to give it a go!
Probably just use the old bike for it so I can keep the new one in use for the indoor track in tillsonburg.
A properly pre-studded set of tires is far from cheap. It takes hours to get them done.

Does anybody know the laws in Ontario for snow/ice riding? Would it be the same for motorcycles as for snowmobiles?

Teal: you're awesome. Thanks for inspiring me ... I have no clue about all this, but Soto (another rider I met on this site) and I checked out a dirt track that may be good over around Richmond Hill area. Feel free to get in touch with me -- i'd like to see what we can muster up this winter! pedram201@yahoo.com or just email me on this site!

awesome link. definitely gives us a preview of all the cool and all the caveats... i'm looking into picking up an old dirt bike for cheap and spiking it up...
Thanks Wogger... I was able to find this: http://hazlereb.tripod.com/december.html

Some guys buy the screws and fire them in themselves:

http://www.youtube.com/v/wObPWMscz8swe race ama ice races in the winter up here in n.y.. dont waste your time with junk screws that your not sure of or that wont work. order some jeff fredette tires for you machine or strange tires from larry strangefiels or skidmore tires from jay skidmore. this yearwe bought jay skidmore tires and so far my son is doing well with them. 2 wins in the 250 class back to back. if you dont have the $ to buy then you need a kenda-490 front and a kenda 4.00-19 for the back and get 1500 cold cutter screws and try to copy a pattern off of a bought tire from one of those three. you need liners in those tires and screws need to be 1and quarter inch. and just take the time to adjust the screws everytime you do 10-20 laps. good luck buddy
