There's an app out for android phones for those of you looking for a lap timer. I can't really comment on how useful or reliable it is as I've never owned a lap timer, but for those of you who already own an android phone, $7 bucks sounds like a bargain for any sort of timing mechanism.

Tom, have you seen this one? Looks cool. http://www.appstorehq.com/harry-slap...hone-30314/app
This discussion came up last year (smart phone based lap timers) and reciprocity said it best when he said:
I've since purchased a $150 lap timer. haha...

i have tried before but for whatever reason cannot find it on the canadian market. does anyone here actually have and use it? i have the htc hero
I have the Ap. It works really well.
In total, the cost was $57...$7 for the ap and $50 to upgrade to an andriod phone. I like the pocket feature. You can turn it on, then lock the screen and stick it in your pocket so you don't have to mount it. It then gives you a recording of your lap, all the diagnostics, g meter, etc., that you can export to google maps or an excel file for future comparison.
To be fair, I can't count the upgrade cost because I upgraded the phone before I knew the laptimer existed, but I'm happy I found it.
Bump for a great product, now on sale for ~$5.

The phone supports much more then basic lap timing depending on the sensors you have in your device.

just a warning, you are going to rattle the sht out of your phone. I had to get mine replaced twice within a span of a few mounts of it being mounted; and this was street riding!
