I'd be willing to swing by and try and assist in a diagnosis....but am a little hesitant if you don't even want to remove the fairings.

    A few questions:

-How long have you had this bike for?
-How long did you ride it before it stopped running?
-How did it run when the bike was working?

If that was the case, wouldn't it not be cranking over? ....and definitely not doing the little exhaust pops/backfires when cranking?

In this situation, a trained and experienced Honda tech (in a Honda dealership) would seem to be an attractive solution.
For example, Steve Lewis at Kahuna is a 35-year Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawi and Polaris Master Tech.
He was rebuilding Interceptors in 1983 heheh... y'know?
It's just that, for me, all this guessing and what-if and maybe is just a giant waste of time - which is money.
Time is money, and I have money but no time.
Just get it fixed quickly and properly by the experts!
Then you don't have to worry or wonder - just ride.
But maybe you have no money?
I have one word for you: "Metropass".
    Sport bikes cost money!
    (No offense)
