    1/4Mile speeds

A few of us got a chance to run some 1/4 mile runs last TMP day. I was comparing my Top speed with a friend that ran as well and he consistantly killing me on the top speeds, which makes me wonder if i'm losing power somewhere or if it's in the "normal" range. Bikes with mods: CBR600RR, 520 -1/+2 125.41 MPH His GSXR600, aftermarket muffler, tuned ECU 133MPH I figured my 520 would be more of an advantage then his upgrades. Anyone else have some top speeds to share?

you should also post the times so we can tell if it's the start or the finish you need work.

    144mph on my 10R.

If your buddy is killing you on the launch he'll carry that speed the whole way down the 1/4 mile. How do your 60ft times compare?

Just shows how crap his braking skills are doesn't it??

Yep, you need to provide more info. If in doubt though go get your bike dyno'ed. -1/+2 will take away some top end, not sure how much though.

Sportrider.com shows the 03-06 CBR600RR with a trap speed of 129-133mph and the GSXR-600 about the same.

Assuming simular 60 foot times, your bike is down on power. What was the temp?

Just as important as bike power, but whats the difference in rider weight?? If you're a heavier guy or your buddy is a light weight, that could be the difference.

Could also be who's getting to WOT earliest. If you're slow off the line and not getting to WOT fast enough you're top end speed will suffer. Your gearing will help you get off the line quicker but only if you launch correctly.

As stated already post up your slips and we can give some better answers.

I think your buddy is faster than you. Just deal with it. You suck. He does not.

    That is all.

Oh BTW here are the times:

    CBR600RR vs GSXR600 (CBR wins by 0.252)
    -------------------------------
    0.332 vs 0.784 Reaction Time
    2.104 vs 2.044 60 ft
    5.245 vs 5.076 300 ft
    7.712 vs 7.492 1/8 mile
    100.12 vs 102.20 MPH
    9.813 vs 9.606 1000 ft
    11.611 vs 11.411 1/4 mile
    125.41 vs 132.90 MPH

I think we are the same weight. Temp was around 20 degrees C maybe?

The numbers don't add up. At the 1/8th the gsxr is .22 quicker and 2 mph faster, yet there is only .20 diff at the 1/4 If he was 2 mph faster at the 1/8th and 7mph at the 1/4 he shouldn't have lost .02 to you.
Generally speaking more hp will give higher mph even if the times are similar. I have a dragbike with around 200hp. If I race some of the high hp turbo bike I can beat him to the 1/8th He has 400hp so he kills me in the 1/4 by about 30mph

    Re: 1/4Mile speeds

Your problem is the 2+ second 60' time.
Take half a second out of that and you've got an 11 second run @125MPH.
    If I can get 1.35 60' times in a 3200# car, you can get 1.5 on a 400# bike.

    Re: 1/4Mile speeds

I haven't seen 60-foot times in the 1.5 second range except on bikes that are stretched and/or drastically lowered and with really short gearing. Stock(ish) sport bikes wheelie too much.

I have the same basic bike that Caboose does (04 ZX10R) but the highest trap speed that I've seen was 132 mph. Neither of us are particularly light riders (ugh). But ... His has gearing, exhaust, race bodywork (lighter), etc. Mine is pretty much stock. It has a +2 rear sprocket, but it also has a 190/55 tire instead of stock 190/50, which (A) offsets the gearing change and (B) makes the bike higher, which makes it harder to launch. I have a heckuva time with launching it. If I try to launch it hard, it wheelies and then I back out of it and get a crappy 60-foot followed by a crappy quarter mile and consistency goes out the window. If I take it easy on the launch to keep the front end under control, I have a crappy 60 foot (around 2 seconds) and unremarkable quarter mile and trap speeds (approx 11.1ish at 130ish) but at least it's more consistent. I haven't done a thing (yet) to make the bike better drag bike, and I certainly have a lot to learn myself.

it is not easy AT ALL to 1.5xx short time a stock length, stock height bike...there are stretched busas that just barely go into the 1.5xx short times.....i have a SWB zx12,best i can get is a 1.67 on it,and i have quite a few passes at the track over the years

I agree 100% Mike...a 1.5 on a stock wheelbase bike is almost unheard of...I would love to see that at Cayuga....Shake that mans hand...lol

throughout this summer i have had a couple bikes to run at cayuga. I run a 10.4 sec 1/4 mile at 139mph on my bone stock 2004 R1 and 2 weeks ago I run a 12.9 sec 1/4 mile at 100mph on my husqvarna 510 supermoto.
