We intend to slab Thursday afternoon to 1000 Islands and bunk in at Watertown NY at the start of a run on 3 towards Lake Placid.
From Placid South to pick up some variation of 28 and head back west...
we are using this as a reference

Anyone know Boreas Road / Blur Ridge road?
TIA

Been there twice, but I never remember or even plot exactly what I want to see before hand. Stayed in Old Forge, which is on the western side. Not to far into the Adirondacks. Very nice little town, restaurants, coffee shops, everything you need and right at the entrance of the Adirondack if your coming under Lake Ontario. I found that any road I went on in the Adirondacks was fantastic and plenty of them you can just get lost for hours on end without seeing another vehicle. Explore and enjoy, you cant go wrong with a trip to the Adirondacls!
Thanks - after reviewing the weather I'm trying to move the trip up to today ( Monday ) or Tuesday through to Friday.
Looks glorious the next few days then sucky on the weekend
Not up to the Adirondacks in the rain after it's been sunny and warm all week.
Hoping riding partner agrees.
Anyone for an impulsive tour ?? - how good is this!! ??
Lake Placid forecast.
Do a bobsled run at the Olympic run it's pretty cool. Yes they run in summer too
maybe my well armoured riding partner - I'll clap
As long as you're flexible with your departure date, you'll have a blast. Don't worry about pre-booking hotels this time I year. Summer is over and they'll be happy to see you. You have to do 9N to Lake George. It is a scenic roller coaster ride. As well, make sure you do 73, 86, 3, 9, 9N,28, 30 and 74. The first picture I attached is on 9N overlooking Lake George. The other 2 are on 73. Route 73 is easily the most scenic road in the entire Adirondack Park. That's because it is home to the Highest Mountains: This includes Mount Marcy, Algongquin, and Giant Mountain among others. Don't forget to ride the Memorial Hwy up to Whiteface Mountain. Route 73 is so beautiful that I suggest you ride it a second time in the opposite direction. Your perspective changes completely.
In Lake Placid, I suggest "Dancing Bears Restaurant" for dinner. It is reasonable. They have $2.00 drafts before 7:00pm and they serve a 12 ounce striploin steak for $16.00. I like Northwoods Hotel because they are friendly to bikers and they are located in the heart of downtown.
Make sure you stay in the village when in Lake George. It is located on Canada street. All the restaurants and entertainment are there.
Let me know how you rate The Adirondacks compared to Pennsylvania.
Have fun,
Carmen

Thanks for insight.
Yeah Whiteface is on the list and we intend to spend some time in the Lake Placid region on Friday afternoon - we have all day from Watertown.
Could use some tips on the route south from there.
This is the route I took from Lake Placid to Lake George. It is direct and it is entirely scenic with virtually no boring sections:
-From Lake Placid, take 73 (south/easterly direction) to 9. (73 is the most scenic road in Adirondacks)
-Take 9 south to 74(beautiful twisty road surrounded by mountains).
-Take 74 east to 9N (Ticonderoga) (74 takes you on scenic descent of about 2000 feet down a mountain ridge. Use low gear).
-Go south on 9N for about 40 miles to Lake George. (Do not rush this part it is a scenic roller coaster. Be sure to stop at scenic look out along the way).
Upon departing Lake George you may want to explore the western part of the park. For this I suggest taking 9 north to Warrensburg. From there the road becomes 28 which reaches the western edge of the park at Old Forge. Or you could leave Lake George via 9N south and hook up with 4 west which connects with 30. You could take 30 north and connect with 28 again. At which point you could go west toward Old Forge or continue north on 30 to either 28N east (which hooks up with 9), or to 3 again at Tupper Lake. Once at Tupper Lake you could circle back to Lake Placid, head west towards Watertown, or explore the north east section of the park in Franklin County.
Once you've exhausted the main roads mentioned, don't be afraid to explore the smaller county roads. Above all else. Take your time and relax. However, be sure to pull over to fully enjoy the scenery. It can be quite a distraction.
Btw, you could always hop on the ferry across Lake Champlain and visit Vermont if you have an abundance of time. It's not very far. Lake Placid hotels have maps and info in the halls.

Thanks that's terrific info.
Anyone got Lake Placid suggestions - maybe something interesting - upscale?
Oh... on the way into to town from the west (Saranac) there's a road-side cookerie with Steamed or baked clams to die for. This place has cabins (don't stay there) on the south side of the road in Rae Brook, NY

Locals stay away from the place like its plagued, I should have known. I stopped there with my family and we ordered ribs. Now, I'm not too picky about what I eat, but food quality should reflect the price. It took about 30 minutes before the waitress took our order(we were about ready to leave, i mean half hour of just sitting around and waiting for someone to take an order is a bit out of line. They had a few people there, so i will let that slide) Our ribs were tiny and shriveled up, tough as hell. The servings were tiny by any standard. The ribs were cold when we got them. I asked the waitress about getting something warmer, but she basically toled me to get screwed. Now comes the check...it was $82 for 3 people. Now I was a little disappointed in the meal and the price, but i looked at the menu and knew what i was getting into(money, not food quality and serving size) so I hand her my credit card, she informs me that they do not take them. I think to myself OK ill just pay and get the heck out before i get any more surprises, so i hand her a $100 bill. 15 minutes later she comes back and asks if we want anything else, I say yes my change. She goes on to tell me that she thought it was her tip and that it was "less than what she normally gets" and besides tips are mandatory. Now im a calm guy, but if someone wants a tip from me they better not make me sit around and wait, only to get ill prepared, overpriced food. I tell her that i want my change and the receipt back. She went and got the manager who was less than friendly, using some 4 letter words around my 8 year old son. At this point im about ready to snap, and tell him that im not leaving till i get my change back and speak to the owner about his conduct. The owner comes out half drunk and tells me that the state troopers are on their way to escort me out. When the troopers came, they spoke with the owner and manager first. They came over to me and my wife and son shortly after and asked for identification. I gave them my shield(I'm a state trooper downstate) and explained them my situation. They went back and had a few words with the owner, and i promptly had my change back(all of this could have been avoided if the business ran the way its suppose to) On my way out the trooper told me that the place is a dump, the locals stay away because of the guys "less than perfect" track record. Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY!!!
You must have caught a lucky day Moto...
Love the story, owner calls the cops, and the complainer is a state trooper.....delicious irony indeed.

Getting there - have a nice place booked just across the border
http://www.westwindsmotel.com/
$50 each separate rooms - right on the St. Lawrence - older but pretty and looks safe for the bikes - friendly on the phone.
We are going to divert off the 401 at Trenton and do a little sight seeing in Prince Edward.
http://prince-edward-county.com/
Lovely area and we have time.
Then off across 3 to Lake Placid $68 a night and only 8 miles from Whiteface.

Rustic but they have wireless.
That will take us to Saturday morning - then head south somewhere
Soooo many good roads.

Thanks for tips.
Holed up a Westwinds watching tennis.
Fast ride with the wind and had time for a small loop through Prince Edward county and kinda neat on the ferry with the bike.
Scala riders were invaluable but we had little range - not sure why - Jas' may have been low on battery.
Makes the time go by nicely to chit chat.
Great meal at Lyric Restaurant and Cafe - very upscale - would not be out of place in Oakville downtown and terrific nouvelle cuisine food.
Great after a ride.
Clayton i classic small town -
Got pulled over at the bridge on a random check - 10 minutes and gone.
Lucky it was me - I travel light
little rain on the way - much more tonight but glorious tomorrow.
Would actually be a nice 2 day loop.
Doodle along the back roads to here - nice meal at the Lyric and then go back south of Lake Ontario
On to Lake Placid tomorrow and NO SLABS!!!!

Great to hear. Can't wait for your next update.

Cooler than we expected but some terrific roads in the Lake Placid area.
Much fun. The road up Whiteface climbs to 5,000 feet and the temp dropped from 17 to 10 brrrr....
Rode right into the clouds. And never thought I see whoops in pavement. Jealous of Jasons dual sport shock travel. The Burgman was NOT pleased
Weird and look at that crazy road - you don't know how steep it is until you try and stop for some photos...tests your parking skiils.
Nice digs at Schultzes
but whoever mentioned closer to town was correct....couple of hot spots hoofing it to dinner and Starbucks later. Needed the exercise anyway
Lisa G's was excellent - tasty = upscale menu but funky humour
Spicy Pork Lettuce WRAPs
Asian style PoRK. FRESH HerBs & Sweey Chili Dlpping Sauce.
ASSEMBLY REQUIRED.
$8.95
Amazing trompe L'oielle on the back wall.
Weather cleared towards the end of the day and chilly tonight but should be good for a long day tomorrow. Many good roads to ride on the way to Booneville.
