I have never used them but avon distanza is supposed to work well on the street.

Mate has just bought one and is looking for more street oriented tires. What options are open to him and what works well? Anyone with any experience? Advice would be welcomed.

heres a good post about dual purpose tires

I like the Shinko 705's I have on my KLR. They are a 75/25 street oriented tire. Plenty sticky for the street and relativly decent off road. And cheap. Dual Sport Plus in Stoney Creek has 'em.

Just be sure to keep the pressure up, shinko recommends 36psi for street use. Some of the earlier stock had block seperation issues, but I have had none keeping my psi @ recommended.
I usually mount Kenda 270's on my KLR, at 56 bucks for a rear tire that last over seven thousand kilometres, I've ridden them out to the East Coast and down to Deals Gap in the states.
This year I ran with Kenda 761's, a
n 80/20 tire. They float a wee bit on gravel, but a little throttle fixes that, with some nice rear end push. They totally rocked on the Cabot trail twisties, holding the road very well under acceleration and braking at all lean angles. I backed off in the wet, and had no problems to speak of. After two thousand km on them they show insignificant wear.
I did slide out on Friday in Sheet Harbour Nova Scotia, I left the asphalt for the verge, and applied too much front brake on what turned out to be a slick mud surface. So, stay off the mud and wet grass unless crashing is your thing.

I have used Dunlop D607 TrailMax on the DR650. How they call them "dual sport" is beyond me because they're very smooth treaded.
