Police charged a 37-year-old man with manslaughter after a female passenger died when she fell off onto Hwy. 401 last month.

Ioana Bocunescu, 40, of Toronto, died at the scene after the driver of a motorcycle sped away from a Durham police cruiser that was attempting to pull it over on Hwy. 401 near Brock St. in Whitby on Aug. 27.

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the incident. The SIU is called in on all cases of serious injury, death or sexual assault that involves police.

Rashid Soujah, from North York, is charged with manslaughter.

    Her obituary

IOANA BOCUNESCU Suddenly as the result of an accident on Friday, August 27, 2010. Beloved daughter of Naruja and the late Mircea Bocunescu, both of Romania. Loving sister of Rucsandra Mitrea and her partner Bob Maheu and Alexandru Bocunescu and his wife Laura. As a fully recovered stroke survivor herself, Ioana was a committed volunteer at the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario. With a University degree in the field of economics (Academy of Economic Studies, Bucharest, Romania), Ioana decided to return to school (Humber College) in order to obtain a degree in Social Services. Her main desire was to help and motivate stroke patients on their road to recovery. Due to Ioana's wishes, there will be no funeral service. Cremation with interment to follow in Romania. In memory of Ioana, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated by the family.
