US 550 (Million Dollar Hwy)

Just seen this on the TV show Dangerous Drives.
Road looks absolutely amazing, anybody ever hear of it or been on it?

Just did a whole bunch of riding in Colorado mid June and it was AWESOME, including the Million Dollar Hwy. Just really pay attention as there is NO guardrail anywhere with 3' of shoulder and if you make an 'oh oh', it is a 2000' to 3000' foot drop into the Black Canyon. One of the best places I have ever rode. 5 days, 2500 miles of twisty roads and only one popo stop, which let us go with a warning.

Ever since i saw that show, i've been looking at taking a trip there. Maybe do a Black Hills / US 550 round tour and hit 2 areas up at once. The problem is the distance and time. It would be a 6-8,000km round trip.. It would require 2 weeks to enjoy.

You could rent bikes in Denver or Boulder or ship your bike and do really nice tour into New Mexico, Arizona and possibly Nevada. The shipping would be about the same as renting.

I have a truck and access to a 4 bike enclosed trailer, thats 5 bikes .

And that would take away alot of travel time. With multiple drivers you could make it there in a little over a day...

That's the one and only episode of that show that I've seen. Looks like a great road

I couldn't stop smiling when the truckers are talking about how dangerous the road is, and then they cut to clip of a group of sport bikes absolutely ripping the road.
