"All,
I'm posting with a heavy heart this morning.
Late yesterday afternoon, the 328 chapter ride was on the return trip from a ride, heading north on highway 12, a few kilometers outside of Orillia. There were 9 bikes in the group at that time. A car suddenly drifted out of the south bound lane, into the north bound lane. The first few bikes in the group were able to avoid him, but the 5th and 7th bikes (both in the left tire track) we unable to do so. Also, the 6th and 8th bikes (both in the right tire track) had to take evasive action. As a result, these 4 riders all went down.
The riders involved were :
1) Dave Yeoman (328053) – Dave took evasive action and laid his bike down on the pavement. He was taken to Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Orillia where he was treated for minor injuries (road rash) and later released
2) Robert McEachern (328003) – Robbie took evasive action and swerved into the ditch on the right side of the highway. Robbie was taken to Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Orillia. The last we heard late last night, he was still at the hospital. As far was we know, his injuries were also minor, and they kept him for observation due to the fact that he went into shock.
3) Peter Campagna (328091) – Peter was hit by the car. He was taken to Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Orillia, and later transferred to RVH in Barrie. Peter suffered a broken leg. Late last night (approx 11:30 pm last night) he was in surgery to have his leg repaired. As of this morning, the news is that the surger went well, and although he is still groggy he is in good spirits.
4) Christopher Sprecker (328021) – Chris was also hit by the car. His left leg was severed below the knee. He was also taken to hospital, however he did not survive the accident – as best as we can make out, he passed away in the ambulance in transit to the hospital."
