    Off-Road nr Bon Echo

I've not posted to this part of the forum before. My only offroad experiences are 2 days with Trail tours and riding my VStrom on a few unpaved sideroads north of the city. Recently I went on a camping trip with my buddy (KLR650) to Bon Echo, from Toronto. We took are really interesting route of road and off-road. Turned a 4.5 hour ride into 7.5 hours by taking the last 80K off road....fantastic... My V-Strom only has the stock tires on it at the moment so I did loose it once in thick mud but we were both impressed with it managing all the rocks, rivers, mud, dirt, gravel and sand. WE enjoyed it so much that I thought I'd share the route, perhaps you guys have already ridden the off-road part, but I just figured I'd share.

I believe that section of offroad is part of the Mazinaw Powerline Skidoo trails. I rode it last august and am headed there again this august. Did you happen to go to the abandoned MOE runway? Its a great little find I'll see if I can spot it on google earth and post it when I'm back on my computer.

    Re: Off-Road nr Bon Echo

I just went to Bon Echo this past weekend and thought how much fun it would have been to take the bike.

I ended up on a couple of side gravel roads to avoid an accident on Hwy 41 and at one point I had to turn back because the "road" got narrower/rougher and I stared seeing snowmobile trail signs. I didn't think the fully loaded VW golf could handle it. My thoughts at this point were, when can I come back on the KLR.

I know there are lots of great roads/trails there after going on the Eastern Adventure Rally earlier this year.

I am heading that way this weekend. There are some great rides in that area but it is best to get a trail pass from the Eastern Ontario Trail Association. Then you can support a great sport and ride rail beds and snowmobile/ATV trails. They provide great maps.

Here is a link to the North Frontenac Road permits and camping site. However, if you already have a day pass from the EOTA, you do not need a permit from North Frontenac to ride on the crown roads there. They have great isolated waterfront camp sites there too.

I will be on Govan lake Saturday night.

Hey fellas, thanks for all this information. I am staying at Big Gull Lake for the nexxt 9 days. Getting out for a couple of DS rides in the area is going to be great entertainment.

Hammerdriver, you wanna go for a ride?

On a side note...a good place to eat is Marble lake lodge...good buffet during the day, pizza, pasta, soup, meatballs, burp, and lots more...enjoy. Oh, don't forget to post good places to eat for me. When we were in Restoule, The Crows Nest was the best place we found to eat.
