Is Southwood always like that? Sand,sand..

I was on Southwood today and there was tons of sand on the road. Lots of gravel in the corners as well. Not only were there patches of sand but long double strips on sand, usually through the corners, and many of the corners had considerable gravel strewn on the road.

When I entered from the north and hit the first corners that were sand covered I passed a group of riders that had pulled off and seemed to be checking one of the riders bikes. Not sure if one of them had gone down or not but it seemed like it to me.

I ended up kinda picking my my way through, low speed and carefully, better safe than sorry.

Yeah I noticed that a few days ago too. Not sure if its still leftover winter sand, but we did have a pretty heavy rain event earlier this week which seemed to have washed sand/gravel from the shoulder onto the asphalt in a few spots

For now it is a great road in a GTI or WRX and that is where all that gravel is coming from.

Curious, is it like this or worse on Southwood currently? This is on Cooper's Fall's Road (on the other side of 11)

Thumbs down Re: Is Southwood always like that? Sand,sand..

I was on Southwood on Sunday. Agreed, too much sand and gravel. I wasn't too impressed with the ride.

I too just came back from there.
Going west, did not turn back, continued onto 400,via Bala.
That road was great till a frigging dog decided to jump out in front of me.
Did not matter which line you took on Southwood,it was s#%t.

Had my camcorder on for the length of Southwood today.
    Just finished looking at it.
In my opinion the sand is left over from Winter and has not been cleaned.
Some might have washed over from the side of the road, not as much as that though.
Do you think that it has not been cleaned on purpose to keep us away?
The local Township has not shown "Due digelence"
Disgusting that they(Township)left it in such a dangerous state.

It's actually good news, if the road was clean it would be full of bikes on the weekends making it a heatscore for the local cops.

As mentioned earlier it will clean up by August.

That road makes me want a Supermoto.
But it's great for practicing 2 wheels drifts.

I had a rice burner in front of me and i think he/she was trying to do just that.
Too much sand for us and not enough for drifting.

I too was there a couple of weekends back, smiling and enjoying the whole route, and thought the same things.
I did however, notice that they did some asphalt patchin here and there so it does look like there maintaining to some degree.

Also i was wondering how much effort (or money), it would take to get a sweeper to go thru or a high pressure water tanker?

The cars make a total mess of it, my friends who cottage there take their high performance cars through there and cut the tight corners and spill gravel all over the road. Spring run- off is also a big problem as sand gravel and everything washes down the road in the spring

Al Traves (http://www.youtube.com/user/allantra...14/pkAeJGkEq4E - video was shot in 05 or 06. I can't remember) actually paid a street sweeper 3 years ago or so to clean the who road up.. personally.

The road was repaved in a lot of places in 2004/2005. The township has not taken good care of it since. There is numerous heaves and the road is in terrible condition now compared to just a couple years ago. I live within 20 minutes of the road and ride it frequently. I've given up on southwood these days.
