Why wouldn't they test the v-twin at a comparable rpm to the 4? Which is fairly close to a sustained highway cruising rpm? (well cept for harleys etc)

2000 rpm was something you would never run the SV at...

Google is finding all sorts of references to a 95 dB limit as per SAE J1169, but that's a test procedure for cars (explicitly not for motorcycles) which is not practical to do at the roadside. The only practical roadside test that I know of, aside from the government making their own, is J2825.

hmm,, another one where they have no way to measure RPM for ie.. my bike doesn't have a tach.. or any exposed rotating part to clock..

sort of like the handle bar height law... you always win in court.. but that doesn't help on the street when they take your plates just to bug you.

I want the plate FUBEU .. is it taken?

It is in fact J2825 for which I am a big supporter. There are some modifications being made to in some jurisdictions to eliminate any swept RPM tests and only test at idle to eliminate the need for a tachometer. The test is very simple, there is room built in for EPA certified exhaust systems that passed the drive by test. The way this test was written was so that all factory systems would pass as well as "reasonable" aftermarket systems.

It would be a great thing to have an actual spec to measure your bike by. Not just up to the officers judgement.

Yup, there goes my c70 Passport with a chinese muffler also.

..and the sidecar rig, since the exhaust is between the motorcycle and the chair, and the sound waves don't have a chance to 'spread out'.. not to mention that the mounting system is customized for the sidecar, designed with my 10 year old Hindle high mount in mind...

I'm all for vehicle sound restrictions but it must be applied to all vehicles, not just motorcycles. If Cali can do it, so can we. Let's be fair and also test modified cars. I hate riding behind/near a group of Harleys when I can't even hear nor feel that my engine is running. Their noise is to intolerable and unnecessary. Average people find this more than annoying.

BTW the db scale is logarithmic, so the difference between one number and the next number is ten times. For example the difference between 85db and 86db is 10 times as loud. Small number db differences are a huge difference in loudness.

You're a little off there. Each 10db increase in noise level corresponds to a doubling of perceived loudness from the previous noise level.

Ontario is not "becoming" a police state, it already is and was for years now.

i hate the smell of cigarettes when i walk behind someone smoking on the street. its bad for my health to breath the smoke in. solution: i dont walk behind someone smoking.

if you dont like it, ride behind/beside someone else. dont whine for legislation against it.

Does that mean the city is not fishing in our pockets?

Guaranteed. And lets not forget, hear-say is call that for a reason. Anyone hear that last year Tokyo got invaded by aliens? It was on youtube, it must be true.

That was what was also said about the Street Racing legislation at one point i think.. that didn't worked out so well for the general public eh?

Cops already have the precedent to be judge, jury and executioner at the side the road. This would only be an extension of their existing powers now.
