    Obstruct plate-pickup truck

If my tailgate is tied up at a 45 deg angle on the 407,will i get pinched? The pic is my truck, but with the tailgate off obviously.I don't want a ticket for $150,and i would like to keep the tailgate on.

If it's tied up against the wheel of the bike, the cameras will still be able to read your plate. The tailgate in that position won't obstruct your plate any more than the top of your bumper would.

The camera would pick up the plate of the bike and send you the bill. I've heard horror stories of people getting 2 bills, one for the truck and one for the bike.

You will not get a ticket for driving around with the tailgate open if you have a load that prevents you from closing the tailgate. You are using the vehicle the way the manufacture intended and this vehicle past all MTO specs and regulations.

When I had my little sport truck, I custom mounted my plate in the tailgate. The problem was when I was carrying my bike, the tailgate was either off or open... now that was not legal.

I know personally, someone who got a 407 bill for his truck/trailer and his street bike that was in the trailer. The administration of the 407 is extremely obtuse, and I'm not sure if he ever managed to get a refund. If you are going to use the 407 with a plated vehicle on a trailer or in a truck and the plate on that towed vehicle is visible ... take it off or tape it over.

Or use my solution ... never, ever, EVER use the 407 under any circumstances.

i ride the 407 all the time with my tail gate down. cops have passed me and havent pulled me over. there is a reason why license plate stickers go on the front of trucks.

The toll cameras don't care about stickers and point at the back of a vehicle. The cops may give you a pass if you have a functioning transponder, but driving with the tailgate down is grounds for a ticket. I'd say that you've just been lucky.

nothing in the hta about having your tail gate down on the 407. from behind my truck you can still read the license plate. my front plate is also clearly visable. also just because a cop issues a ticket doesnt make it illegal. thats for the courts to decide.

It clearly states at different points of the 407 that your rear plate must be visible when entering/exiting.

Trust me, i hear where your going with that .. the cops enforce the tailgate down all the time due to it being a toll portioned highway.

sorry to inform you but stickers on passenger vehicle (including pickup trucks) go on the back. Stickers for COMMERCIAL vehicle go in the front. Is your truck registered as a commercial truck?

    Re: Obstruct plate-pickup truck

I had my motorcycle on my trailer along the 407.

Not only did my car get a bill but so did the motorcycle because it was on the trailer.

I called the 407 (the really nice people there) and it was like talking to a brick wall.

How hard is this to understand. My motorcycle was on a trailer, it was not being ridden on the 407. Why am I charged for the car and the motorcycle on the trailer????

Moral of the story, if you are towing your motorcycle in a trailer, or in the back of your p/u, make sure the motorcycle plate is not visibile otherwise the bike will also be charged for the 407 ride.

Given how obstructionist the 407 staff seem to be, I would tend to agree. It's far better to avoid a possible mistake on their part, than to try and fix it after the fact.

And tying the tailgate up as far as it can go should be fine, in that situation.

    Sticker on the front.

please show me on the MTO site/HTA where it says the personal vehicles (pickups) stickers go in the front. Commercial registered vehicles stickers go in the front. It's even on the instructions when you get your new stickers. That's also why they give you those RED stickers to put in the front.

When I had a pickup MTO told me to put the sticker on the front, regardless of what the vehicle is being used for (private or commercial).

Just based on my experience with 3 different pickups i've owned and where i was told to put the sticker. I looked on the MTO site and couldn't find any information at all regarding where to put the sticker (front or back).

I once lost lost my front plate and had to go and report it to the cop station. The cop said that since it's only the front plate then I not a problem since I didn't lose my sticker then I told him that the sticker was on the front plate and he told me that it should of been on the rear of the truck and I could get a ticket for it.

I bought a brand new Tacoma and when I drove it off the lot the sticker was on the rear plate.

Black text plate or blue text plate?

I bought a used Ranger from a Ford dealership and the sticker was on the front. Black letter plate.

So neither of us have any tangible evidence of where it is supposed to be.
