Bevan Motorsports SOAR Round #1 Race Report
Toronto Motorsports Park, Cayuga May 6-9th 2010

The team started off the weekend early with a track day on Thursday with Racer5. The day was utilized to develop baseline settings on the Yamaha R6’s. The good weather Thursday afternoon allowed for the team to get up to speed quickly.

Friday and Saturday brought mixed conditions with extremely high winds, rain, hail, and snow at times. The plan to test the new Pirelli SC3 rear tire had to be put on hold until Sunday. With the poor conditions and smaller grid sizes the team opted to forgo Saturday practice and qualifying and save the equipment for the Sunday finals.

Sunday Mother Nature finally let up a little with lighter winds and mostly sunny conditions. The Formula Femme was on the front row of the mixed grid. Sarah started in the second spot next to Sunny Park. Sarah made her way through some Light weight twin riders the catch Park on the 3rd lap. Sarah quickly took the lead and gained a 15 bike gap when the Red flag came out for a downed bike. On the restart Sarah got boxed in by some Twins and had to battle through to gain clear track. Sarah made short work of the lead Park had in the last 2 laps but Park held the lead to the line with Sarah finishing within a bike length at the stripe claming second in her first ever race.

The Expert Open Sprint race was first on the day for Mike. From the outside position on the front row Mike on the R6 held third behind Milson and Rupert on their GSXR 1000’s. Mike swapped third with Shields a few times then set off passing Milson on the outside of turn 3 on lap 4. In the remaining laps he tracked down Rupert for a last lap battle, they touched wheels going into turn 2 and Mike had to run wide then crossing the line in 2nd.

The Expert 600 Extreme race saw a tight three way battle between Shields, Rupert and Bevan in the first 3 laps. On lap 4 Mike and Rupert moved past Shields and pulled out a gap. With the laps winding down the gap was maintained with Mike finishing 2nd.

The Orion Motorsports Expert Superbike race turned out to be the race of the day with Mike taking the early lead from the second spot on the grid. Rupert came by on Lap 2 but Mike battled back on lap 4 to retake the lead in turn 4. Mike then pulled out an 8 bike gap over the next 3 laps. A small mistake on the second last lap saw Rupert close in but Mike held him off to Win his first Expert level race on his first Expert race weekend. “The R6 ran great on the R-Tech fuel and new SC3 Pirelli rear.”
